UK reviewers are horrible

they pick up on the fact that RE5 is all about ‘panicked crisis management’ - balancing your inventory with your immediate requirements as hordes of zombie types try to end your life in unique and interesting ways

What does come through in the review is how good Sheva’s AI is, but these points are balanced out by the painful inventory management and the poor cover system that ‘all but kills the fun’.

Basically they whine because the game doesn't pause when you open the item menu. They just suck at the game.

Resident Evil 5 is to Resident Evil 4 what Call of Duty: World of War is to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: an imitation whose successes are predominantly ideas lifted straight from the previous game. Seven hours, thirty six minutes and one second - our original completion time - worth of recycled material and familiar set-pieces, along with a handful of experimental deviations from the usual formula. Seven hours, thirty six minutes and one second. Yeah, we winced too. Feel free to add an hour's worth of cut-scene footage to that total (although subtract around thirty minutes' worth of repeated deaths during the end boss thanks to some 'creative' design while you're at it), but the result still makes for grim reading. Small games may be 'in' right now, but next to Resi 4's massive offering it's bitterly brief. What is squeezed into that timeframe is therefore doubly crucial...

It's funny how according to all the other reviews the game lasts about 20 hours.

RE5 isn't about solitary frights in the dark anymore. It's about hyper-intense, adrenaline-fueled, partner-focused action.

It takes the co-op experience to a new level and reinvigorates the survival horror genre.

While Resident evil 5 still resists conversion to a pure shooter mechanism, you can now strafe, and while panning with your weapon isn't exactly fast, it's no longer insufferably slow.

Some control peculiarities (from RE4) do remain (in RE5) such as the inability to walk or run while firing your weapon.

The overall effect of the new control refinements is a smoother, less frustrating play experience without the robotic movements that have been a hallmark of the series for most of its existence. But if you're still resistant to change, there's a wide latitude of control setup options that will let you tune in a good amount of the traditional Resident Evil control feel.

-Game is 18-20 hrs long...

- Resident Evil 5 changes locations more often than Resident Evil 4 and the pace moves on immensly, especially after the first 10 minutes.

- GamePro counted 1 (!!!) real puzzle in Resident Evil 5.

- The emphasis is clearly on Co-Op. When a character is investigating something alone it usually deals with finding a key or moving something. GamePro says that these are the most intriguing situations as you wish your partner would be with you and help you fight the hordes of enemies.

- GamePro found the fights with Wesker very cool. They are absolutely dramatic and stunning.

- The visuals and audio are top notch.

- The PS3 version suffers a few glitches here and there, but they are not heavy.

- They describe the game as an extremely entertaining, quick Tour de France with less horror.

- The overall review score is 93% for both PS3 and Xbox360 versions. Added to the PS3 graphics score was a note that the PS3 version suffers minor issues. GamePro's usual, separate multiplayer score for the game is 10/10.

- After completion of the game graphic filters, unlimited ammo, alternate costumes and an "arcade mode" among other things become available.

Eight out of ten is still a good score.

I've spent part of the morning on the GFaqs Halo Wars board, hearing all the fanboys moan because it only got 7/10 in Edge. They seem to believe that 8/10 is average, and anything less means the game isn't decent. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Halo Wars demo more than the RE5 demo.

The game features a freaking tubegirl. That alone is more than enough for 10/10.

Of course, this is the score after all the blood and gore has been filtered out and the game has been brightened a few degrees so that the Germans don't go insane with fear and start another World War.
