I will be reviewing the Nintendo DS port of the PS2 game Disgaea - Hour Of Darkness, which was conveniently named Disgaea DS.
First of all, bonus points for porting a Playstation 2 game and actually making it look beautiful on the (Graphically and technologically) inferior portable handheld, even though it did have to cut most of the voice acting. However, the same game was ported to the PSP and apparently *has* voice acting left in. That just might be reason enough for me to buy a PSP before Dissidia even reaches the North American shore.
Anyhow, Story - This game is centered in the Netherworld, where the main character, the demonic prince Laharl, is waking up after a two + year nap to find out that his father had died two years ago, and the other demons are trying to take control as Overlord of the Netherworld. Along the way, an Angel trainee assassin appears at Laharl's castle with the mission of assassinating his father, but doesn't know that his father had died. The Angel, Flonne, makes it her new mission to teach Laharl about love, which he obviously doesn't give a fuck about <3
Gameplay - This game is an SRPG, like the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics series. It has a lot of customization, you can use any character/monster you'd like, and even most bosses since many of them join you after you beat them. Also, the max level is 9999, and you have to reach it multiple times and start at level 1 again if you want to max out your stats at 20 000, and have a few million HP. Have fun hitting millions of damage in one hit =)
Closing Note - The game features exploding penguins with butcher knives, and zombies with Horse Wieners
Chrona's rating? EPIC/10
