Which would be better, a DVD lens cleaner that can be found and bought anywhere or something else?

The DVD lens cleaner usually works, but I lost mine, so I did it manually
Just unscrew the whole thing, lightly blow and brush off the dust, vacuum out the ten years worth of dirt from the rest of the console, and yer done

Just wondering because I have a PS2 that will be almost five years old in November, and so, to keep things in ship shape, I wondered which would be easier to do. I'm a little hesitant on unscrewing the PS2, though.

That's what it does, it's one of the older PS2 models (the fat ones). Still plays decently though.

I tried unscrewing my DS to change the skin
Needless to say, undoing a PS2 is about the equal of a ten piece jigsaw puzzle. Unless you purposely try to fuck it up, you won't fail

Thank you, Chrona. Not to take chances, though, I'll try to get one of those laser lens cleaners, unless other people think it's a waste of time.

I did find a Youtube video about fixing the laser lens via taking it apart. I might consider that as a last resort if using the DVD lens cleaner idea doesn't work.
Here's the video just in case (don't worry, I already favorite'd it on my Youtube account, though it's for fat PS2's)...

Cool, I had mine since Castlevania: Lament of Innocence came out in November 2003. Chrona, what's your secret in keeping your PS2 in shape?

I rarely drop it, and leave it on for months at times

Fortunately, I never dropped mine at all either. Up to this point, it was that and not be on the PS2 for a time so I can play other things (you know, give the laser lens a break).
