Yes, after Metal Gear but before Metal Gear Solid there was Policenauts and Snatcher, Hideo Kojima's previous works.
Policenauts hasn't been translated to English but the Sega CD/Mega CD version of Snatcher has. Anyone played it? What did you think of it?

I played Snatcher on the Sega CD. It was a hell of an experience, and I'm surprised there's no sequel yet... should be. Kojima at his best before Metal Gear Solid.

Well... there is the upcoming "Project S" collaboration between Suda 51 and Hideo Kojima....

I've heard of that project myself. It was supposed to be worked on after the game "No More Heroes". However, I heard nothing more about the development of Project S beyond that. And I found this out about a couple of months ago.

Well a radio drama which would be a prequel to Snatcher, detailing Gibson's discoveries have already been confirmed from Project S.
