It's hard to appreciate the '80s sometimes, for some.

Now don't get me wrong. I liked some stuff from the 50s-70s, and all the way up to the mid 90's. However, after that, a lot of the music (but not all) went pretty downhill for me.

I like Usher too.
The only music I think that's good out now is anything related to Game OST's and Movie OST's. That's about it for me in this day and age other than anything made before the late '90s.

So much of the commercial music today is crap that I simply don't feel like wading through it all to find something I may enjoy.
You may or may not think I have terrible tastes in music, but I agree with your sentiment, regardless. Omitting video game OSTs, I can count on one hand the number of bands whose music I still listen to post-2000.

I'm a fan of both, yet why do people always think that Linkin Park is emo? Personally, I don't see it. Not to be totally rude here, if I suspect a singer or a group that's emo, it'd be that woman who sings "Keep Bleeding Love." It has a good beat, but I get bad vibes from it.
@MT: I have no objections in your statement.

i thought papa roach was worse with last resort
i think its cause of crawling but don't judge a group on one song i think its pointless they should be more popular but as people label them emo and lots of people like then they're not cool

It's always just the one song that they cite when they make fun of Linkin Park being "emo": Crawling.
If one song defines a band's genre, then I can name a ton of bands whose genres are all screwed up.

That was a mistake on my part, then. Saying that I don't judge solo or group singers because of one song would make me sound like a hypocrite because I've done that before in the past. There were times I actually regretted it, other times i didn't (like Destiny's Child; I listened to most of their songs, and I never liked them. Same goes for Britney Spears. I know that's foolish of me to listen to them perhaps, but well, I couldn't think of better examples).

Eh, I think we've all done it at one time or another. My message more or less was to pay no mind to these people. The majority of them are probably just joking and don't sincerely believe that, anyway.

Any brief examples, MT? No need for a big list or nothing, about one or two bands is good enough.

Well, virtually every band/group/whatever tries to experiment at some point during their careers. It's often these times that people get confused.
The only example I can come up with off the top of my head right now is rather esoteric. When Metallica released Ride the Lightning in 1984, Fade to Black was initially singled out as a track that proved the band was trying to appeal more to a mainstream audience by taking a departure from all-out thrash metal. Turns out that they would go on to release two (and a half) more thrash metal albums which are widely considered to be two (and a half ) of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time. Metallica's sound wouldn't truly undergo a paradigm shift until the early 90s.
What's funny about that is Fade to Black remains a fan-favorite to this day.

Their "Enter Sandman" song is the most I remembered from Metallica, as my older sisters used to listen to them all the time as I was growing up.

The album this song is from (self-titled/"The Black Album") is the first one in which it was becoming apparent that Metallica's sound was undergoing a change. That's what I meant when I was saying "and a half", the "half" being this album.
