This makes two, amigo. This was also announced, but they said there'd be multiplayer as an option. That'll be interesting to see worked out, too.

This does indeed look interesting...The MC looks ...very silmilar to one of his other previous characters and it already at 1.7million dollars. My guess it that it will most likey end at 3million dolllars. Still...It nice to see that there is a demand for this type of product

Well, one of them is influenced design-wise by Castlevania's Alucard. Wouldn't surprise me if the protagonist had influences from this game's Spiritual Predecessor, either.

So what exactly has Igarashi contributed to Castlemaine? I hope this isn't another Mighty No. 9 and he was only tangentially related to the development of the games in the first place.

He was SotN's Assistant Director, a "Special Thanks" for Rondo of Blood, and Producer from Castlevania Chronicles up until Harmony of Despair. He crafted the Metroidvania-styled Castlevania games from the ground up and started this project for the fans.

The term Metroidvania still bugs me. Makes sense for a Castlevania game that's similar to Metroid, but the other games similar to Metroid but not similar to Castlevania also get called Metroidvania. I think I read an interview with this Igarashi where he said that while making the game they just thought of it "2D action exploration". I like that.

Funny; they mentioned the exploration aspect being based on Zelda's open-endedness. I think of "Castletroid" for Metroid games with that style. But IGA found a nice middle ground.

Igarashi in relation to SotN development:
Quote :
The game was directed by Toru Hagihara, while assistant director Koji Igarashi had creative influence and was involved with the story-writing and programming.

I'll be hyped for this game because of the genre rather than who's making it. Also If this is anything like Harmony of Despair it will be awesome.

The multiplayer does bring HoD in mind with how the multiplayer there worked. Primarily what I saw of HoD from footage and whatnot. That and Michiru Yamane is coming back to do the soundtrack and the Castlevania OSTs were awesome; there was always something for everyone in them.

I noticed. Not saying thats a bad thing as it does have some nostalgia if the characters lookalike. But is it too much to ask for characters that look more .... Original? Unique? If that's the right words for it.

Well, the guy with the whip that I've seen art for looks less Classicvania or Igavania inspired in his own right than the Alucard, Richter, Shanoa lookalikes. I am under some small assumption that some of the monsters will have their own character designs that are less influenced. Kinda wondering if they'll do a classic Simon/Trevor or Sypha kinda character, maybe a Grant or Soma-like guy design wise. So many possibilities with what I've seen so far that I've kept tabs on.

Not going lie, I am not a fan of the Castlevania series.
Played the original NES, Super Castlevania 4, SOTN, and Lords of Shadow.
Castlevania for the NES was ok, but I felt like the controls were pretty wonky and the jumping was awful. I can probably say some of the moments of dying in the game aren't from a fair challenge and more of some bad controls. The games not bad, but hasn't aged well in my eyes. I haven't played Simon's Quest or the Dracula's Curse, but they don't seem to improve much either
4 fixed a lot of this issues with jumping, controls, and made the whip a more useful weapon. Kind of like the level designs more in that game and it was more of a fair challenge instead. So I guess you can its sort of my favorite in the series.
SOTN took a different turn and made it like Metroid with RPG elements. It was decent, but I won't lie, I didn't finish it for some reason. I did get halfway done, but was too busy with other shit to finish it.
Lords of Shadow is garbage. A half ass GOW at its best.
I might try Bloodstained when it comes out.

At least as a non-fan, you keep an open mind, tried different parts of the series, and are walking into this with an open mind. Good on you there.

Your too nice.
I try to keep an open minded about most games.........well most I say, because playing most of modern gaming is more of a chore than it has been fun lately. 2015 for gaming isn't bad, but I don't see this Next Gen shit people are talking about and oh yeah, fun.
Hopefully these Kickstarter games have this missing thing called FUN that been missing for most of gaming since, I don't know, 2007 or 08 maybe. Not saying everything made between 08 to now are bad and can't be fun, but most of them are missing the flair for being FUN! I don't like Kickstarter that much in my opinion, but if you can do stuff that even the biggest Triple A companies can do, then gaming is clearly in trouble of creativity and talent.
I don't care for your buzzwords *insert any video game company ever* like "Cinematic" "Immersion" or whatever half ass marketing words of the week. How about this buzzword.........FUN!
If you're game isn't fun, it sucks, period.
Sorry for that rant, but yeah I hope we can see good out of this.

Honestly, unless it were like say... Shovel Knight, a recognized IP that hasn't wronged me as much as others, or a genre I'm keen on, then my interest in modern gaming wanes by a lot. I honestly look more forward to classic-style projects like this for that reason, personally. And after hearing about all the nuances from SotN onwards here and the hard-as-balls Classicvania difficulty, I genuinely could not resist but to keep tabs on it myself. The video I posted from AlphaOmegaSin sums up my thoughts so far pretty much on this because of that fun look and the atmosphere and me being a sucker for that.

Shovel Knight is in that category of fun.
It was probably best game of 2014 next to maybe South Park because 2014 was one of the worst years in gaming, only rival by 2012 in modern time.
