The second stick add on integrated into the system. I really hope this doesn't mean a change in game performance when they say more powerful from the article it sounds like its just for browser etc.

I think this now puts it up to the 5th version of the 3ds, 7th if you include the changes they did a while back, but those seemed miniscule.

I said it would never happen because it would be a stupid decision, the (massive) existing install base don't have second sticks and the vast majority of games will just ignore it. It's like the reverse of what happened with Kinect 2.0.

This will sell regardless as Nintendo seem to happily own multiple versions of the handheld consoles and this will likely just get a new batch of LEs that people will want to have to. That said hopefully this will increase support of letting people use the right joystick for camera (as an option, i think forcing extra peripherals on people is annoying), which would make a lot of games a lot more fun.

It really remains to be seen what they do with it, Nintendo also did this last generation with the DSi and it didn't have any impact whatsoever. Most people won't care about ports of old Wii games, a problem would only arise if Nintendo designed new games around the better CPU and second stick.

If they do that, is it really any different from releasing a new console with backwards compatibility and slightly higher specs?

Its hard to say at the moment.  I doubt it will get a exclusive Zelda or pokemon at this point.  But realistically they would end up replacing all stock with New 3ds.  I wouldn't be suprised if we'll see stuff like metroid on this.  That series has been oddly quiet of late and would likely be considered 'hardcore' compared to other Nintendo characters.  They certainly  are suggesting there will be more exclusive games for this then either the DSi or GBC (i honestly can't even name one DSi exclusive).

If the install base gets large enough you might as well consider this the new console.  I'm really hoping its not the case.  Otherwise I'm not intersted in ever purchasing a Nintendo console.

On the other hand if there's only a handful of 'New 3DS' only titles and they are niche games I might end up grabbing one myself.  The extra buttons and possibility of slighty nicer graphics makes it look more appealing.  Plus ultimately everyone wants to play pokemon.

5 games and only 2 released in europe that were DSi exclusive. So i guess the shitstorm people are kicking up about Xenosaga being exclusive is something that can't be as easily dismissed as saying this happened with DSi.

It is exactly the same as DSi right up until Nintendo start releasing major games that are incompatible with 3DS.

Given they've already announced that they have more exclusives lined up and according to wikipedia there was only two available then europe its not the same already. Xenoblade is significantly more notable compared to the DSi exclusive releases. Not saying its a big deal yet, but it doesn't look good.

Buu it's a port of a Wii game, it's nothing new. That's the point. If Nintendo want to pad the 3ds library with ports like Sony did with Vita that's fine, nobody will be missing out on anything new just because they don't want to buy a second 3ds.

I was more talking about the fact nintendo themselves stated that their would be more exclusives.  I guess Exclusive ports aren't a big deal, but they didn't word it that way.

Either way you look at it though port or not people own a 3ds, don't necessarily own a Wii and Xenoblade is £40 on amazon:

Maybe more widely available in other countries, but there's still plenty of reason if rare games pop up on N3DS to be annoyed if you're an early adopter. I mean I don't own the console yet and this honestly is great for me unfortunately there's enough 3DS users out there that if its a continuing trend it will piss off.

To be clear as yet nothing has been said that would necessarily piss people off, but it easily could if anything noteworthy is released. I'm just saying I don't think this is similar to DSi as literally nothing anyone would want came up on there.

If it's got exclusive games then it's pretty much a new console.
