| I was having a discussion with someone just the other day about trophy's and achievements he said that Microsoft and sony turned gaming into a sport and ruined gaming
Naturally i said they're optional no one dictated that you need to get em. Do the games you wanna and leave the games you dont my example is i despised heavy rain so i left it regardless of any % it had. in actuality people turned it in to a sport like... lets see who gets "x trophy first or achievement" In other word caving into peer pressure or supposedly making them selves look better ect ect but then again sony had that "bid for greatness" just the other week so.... yeah that kinda contradicts what was said.
Another topic i want to bring up is trophy and achievement hacking I'd personally say " why buy the even buy the game if you're just gonna cheat?" so yeah....
Lets discuss i wanna hear your opinions and such! do you think trophys and achevos are necessary did it ruin your gaming ect ect

| You've probably seen my level. But if you check ou my completion rate its pretty bad. I normally don't bother with games I find dull. My general habit is at least finishing a game, unless its really crap. If its not that good I might drop the difficulty.
I really don't get the comparison to sport. It means nothing to get trophies, and honestly in the real world talking about trophies would probably get met with blank stares of wtf are you talking about. So I get the impression this whole talk of it being a sport is just to inflate the ego of people who suck at sport.
Hacking trophies is probably the most pointless thing to do. I've literally got not clue why you'd want to hack something (its always so blatent when people have), to show people a list that not many people care about.
On the other side I think online trophies are dumb, especially when they ae for winning games online. Anything that won't come naturally ruins the flow of the game for everyone else.

| if you check my trophy list, you'll see it's pretty darn empty and most of the games aren't even close to 50%.
can't say i really care about them.. there's only 2 games I actively tried to get a platinum for and the third one, I got automatically just for finishing the game (Walking Dead). all the rest, I honestly don't really give a damn.
well, not that I don't like if one pops up if I do something, but I generally don't care about actively getting them.

| they were put on there for replay value at first, knowing that you could potentially get 1000/ plat in 1 playthrough but most wouldnt think of it so why would they replay the game? it was to try & stop the 2nd hand game market imo | |

That was clearly the case with games like crysis 2 were they made trophies like play online 6 months after you originally played the game.

| @buu Interesting, pretty much the same i just stop playing it altogether though. Yeah i get that, but it is competitive on some levels thats why some people do compare it to sports or maybe its just that you get ranked on games that have online but yeah its rather silly. True .... though they're attention whore's oh look at this list and post they're crappy profile on somthing like psn leaderboards or psnprofiles sony doesnt even do anything against these guys. they ought to take a page from microsoft and reset they're profile .... though that doesnt solve much still its a start.
@testYes i kinda get the whole replay value thing But it could kill whatever fun you had playing the game then again some trophys and achevo's are rather ridiculous. e.g jump 100 times. not really all that practical to finishing the game itself.
@ psycho i think thats the kinda approach every gamer should take although the whore's would disagree

| It adds replay value for games you like, if you don't like a game play something else. To actually go out of your way to do something unpleasant is dumb.
I mean most gamers especially those with plus have a crap load of games they haven't finished so there's always a better option then finishing up a game you have no interest in.

e.g jump 100 times. January 2009 trophies became compulsary on all games released on ps3, the jump 100 times ones are just devs being half assed with their jobs

| If its jump 100 times in a platformer it wouldn't be a weird trophy. If its jump 100 times in CoD then yeah that would be weird but if it included onlin time people would do it even then. | |

| Sony Update 4.50 allows you to hide a specific game and its trophys or specific trophys (any trophy viewing site wont be able to see em either) Microsoft allow you to only hide everything I dunno if thats actually pretty helpful but..... I can finally hide heavy rain but i think personally they should have added a complete removal system (gets rid of games) | |

| If it's a game I love, I'll try to get what trophies I can... If they're not bullshit like, Get x amount of wins online or something.
My only Plats are Fist of The North Star (Which is basically complete every story/extra mission ever and get x amount of kills using y style), Sonic Generations (Which was still easy enough despite final boss related trophy), Metal Gear Solid 3, & Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. ...I had a mind to plat MGS2 as well, But lost interest. :V

| I thought this was a really pointless update. Apparently it basically says you have hidden trophies. So everyone is going to assume you just been playing something messed up anyways. | |

I Guess but the only game that comes to mind is Galgun or the JP ver of Mugen souls (well in actuallity both are JP only) Either that or people think you've hidden hacked trophy's so its bad/bad huh still there has to be some benefit from this

| They should just copy the Steam system of everyone having a unique ID that can't be changed as well as a display name that you can do whatever you want with. | |

They wouldnt do it if it costed them what say £5 each time right? id say thats fair a PSN tag for life after all PS is only supposed to do everything right? lol - Neo wrote:

Thats actually quite good idea now if they'd only allow that it would solve quite a few problems Oh yeah i heard the Xbox one could record when you get a achievement of course you can turn it off i think ( i assume its either for proof or for showing other people how to get X achievement) though i still dont know all that much about it yet
