Recommend me movies released in the last couple of years

I've been slacking off on the film front for a while now and have been trying to catch up. Over the last couple of days I've watched Cabin in the Woods, Argo, Looper and Drive for the first time. They were all varying degrees of excellent (if you want a specific order Argo > Cabin > Drive > Looper).

Recommend me more. I pretty much haven't watched anything recent-ish except like Skyfall (pretty good), Hunger Games (meh, the books were much better) and TDKR (bad). I'm probably going to try and watch all the Marvel verse movies at some point, but I'm gonna watch them in order so I'm putting it off for now.

Have at it.

Iron Sky. It's possibly my favourite film of recent years discounting The Avengers.

I expected it to be bad, but it's pretty darn good.

No genre preferences, I'll watch anything so long as its good.

I don't want to be one of those people who claim that someone "didn't get it" when they think a film I like is bad, but the it's mostly a massive satire so I definitely understand how people might either not like it or didn't pick up on it if they know nothing at all about modern politics.

You should ignore the reviews and watch it.

I enjoyed Limitless. It is pretty darn good.

I don't know how to describe why I like Zoolander, I kind of just do. It's a movie where Ben Stiller plays a male model and the world is ruled by male model's and their competing to outdo one another in how they can smoulder and look the prettiest to come out as the alpha male.

And Billy Zane is in it.

Second Iron Sky and Pitch Perfect.

The Intouchables, Bully (this is a doco), The Man with the Iron Fists (directed by RZA of Wu-Tang fame, it's amazing), Seven Psychopaths, End of Watch and Safety Not Guaranteed are all good too.

Iron Sky is good.

Okay seriously, you guys were taking the piss about Iron Sky right? I just finished watching it and it was utterly unfunny and unremarkable satire.

I got it, so don't level that charge at me. I understood the satire perfectly (it's hard not to when the film is as heavy handed as it is). It just wasn't funny or interesting at all. I frowned my way through the entire movie, expecting it to pick up or for there to be some radical improvement to justify the praise you guys were giving it. Nope.

It was like Idicoracy all over again, where the social matters it is mocking are so grossly exaggerated that it ceases to be relevant, and might as well just be a Wayans Brothers parody like Scary Movie.

I saw the Tardis during one of the space scenes and caught the blatant Downfall recreation, but that's the end of the nice things I have to say about it.

I guess you're just not the kind of person who can enjoy movies because they're dumb, not just in spite of it. None of the other ones I suggested (except maybe Iron Fists to a small extent) is like that though so don't let it turn you off.

I just have this image in my head of Sarbud with his arms crossed, his eyes squinted and a huge angry frown on his face through the whole movie and it is the funniest image.

It was a film about nazis invading from the moon, how was it going to be something you can take seriously?

Nazi invading the moon is pretty boring. Read JoJo's Bizarre Adventure which has cyborg nazi's instead.

My problem with the film wasn't that it was goofy, it was that it wasn't funny or interesting. A zany premise like moon Nazis invading Earth can't carry an entire movie on spectacle alone. If there was some substance behind the satire and not just a rather infantile style of humor I might have liked it more.

Pitch Perfect was pretty great.

Bully was infuriating. Great documentary, it didn't say anything I didn't already know, but it chose some great stories to tell. I despised the victim blaming throughout from the school officials and the police, and even the parents at one point. Fucking hell.

I liked Intouchables, mostly due to the charisma of the cast. Wasn't groundbreaking but it was a nice movie.
