Apparently it's worse than anyone expected. Not only is Ryse 90% QTEs, but it doesn't even matter if you do the QTEs wrong. You can press nothing and QTE just autocompletes itself. The only difference between doing the QTE wrong and doing it right is the amount of XP you get.

I thought Crytek was better than this...

or wait, maybe it's the Crytek that's made up of the team from Haze...? that would make sense somehow then.

The last good game Crytek developed was in 2008.

They do understand that the reason they're called video games is because there is player-action interactivity, right? Like you press buttons and the things happen is the rule, not "You do not press buttons, the things happen" like a movie.

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/06/crytek-responds-to-our-criticisms-of-ryse/

Quote :
The combat system in ‘Ryse: Son of Rome’ is designed to be accessible to a wide variety of players and skill levels, but also extremely rewarding to gamers who take the time to learn and truly master it. While new players will be able to enjoy the game and pull off amazing-looking executions by pressing a basic combination of buttons, the full depth of the combat system can only be achieved by timing the execution prompts correctly

Disaster averted.

I still think that if you miss a prompt you should die or at least fail in what you tried to do.

That's not any better, that just means you'll get fancier QTEs if you're better at doing QTEs.

Are you suggesting QTEs aren't the ultimate test of human agility, reflexes and testicular fortitude?
