- So from the sounds of it, Dark Souls is basically trial and error, like that Uninvited game.
I wouldn't say it's exactly like that, because it has mechanics that actually make sense and it's never unfair, but, yes, there's an element of trial and error to it.
On my first playthrough I was a bit overleveled because I did a shitload of co-op but I think I beat gargs on my third or fourth try. Capra took me a couple more than that because I wasn't paying enough attention and got frustrated because I felt like the game was being unfair, if I were to start a new character I'd likely beat it on my first try though because the beginning of the fight is completely predictable.
Anyways, for the gargs it's a good idea to cut the tail off the first one so it has limited attack options, from there it's easy to dodge its swings until you wear it down enough for the second one to spawn. Once that happens it's pretty simple (once you get a feel for how much time you can afford to attack) to just run away from the fire while you kill the first one.
Capra demon is honestly one of the easiest bosses in the game, he just stomps the shit out of new players because his dogs can stunlock you if you get caught. Once you learn to dodge both his initial attack and in the opposite direction to the dogs it's easy to just run to the stairs, at which point you've essentially already won the fight.
The basilisks (things that curse you in the depths) can be 1shot with firebombs that cost 50 souls a pop from the Male Undead Merchant in Undead Burg, otherwise it's best to use magic or arrows. If none of those are an option you're better off just 2handing your weapon and hoping you can react fast enough to dodge their curse attack, it can't be blocked anyway. Also that's the only sewer area in the game, there's a swamp soon afterwards but after that it's all unique locations. Exactly how is one supposed to cut the tail off the gargoyle? I couldn't get past his flank in terms of running around him. Anyway my main point about the situations i mentioned is how are those not luck based scenarios or not considered cheap. I honestly get the impression that people can't call things luck based in this game because the hardcore fans will gut them as this is supposed to be genuinely hard. I might give this one more chance as you told me how to deal with the basilisks, but if i can't get back to the merchant i'll just rage quit, also i very much dislike playing with randoms as they are OPed and ruin the game (i told you about that guy who killed the Taurus demon in like one hit when i played with him)

That's true of all games, it's no fun when you aren't all around the same level.

The thing is i think they are due to the way the game system works, they must be pros who've got OPed equipment maybe from a new game+ or something i can't imagine there's anything that strong that early in the game.

If you want to make it simpler you can summon Solaire's phantom who'll chuck lightning bolts at them for pretty good damage. It's not luck based because once you know what to do it works every time. I can see how it could seem that way at first because I felt like that too but I guarantee that now you've beaten it once you could do it again pretty easily. The people you'll meet around the very start of the game these days are pretty much guaranteed to be dicks. Ever since someone figured out how to dupe items there have been loads of Lv.1 invaders and OP sunbros that make things impossible/too easy respectively if they get in your game. Once you get to SL20+ or so though you'll probably see more normal people.

| I got the game on PC when it came out a few months ago so I've already beaten all the DLC stuff. Probably won't touch the PS3 version again as modders have fixed all the framerate problems on the PC version. | |

| It's good, the bosses are challenging and fun to fight, there are lots of new items to find and it gives you a different perspective on some aspects of the story. It's side game stuff but you can't access it until you can get into the Duke's Archives, which is near the end of the game, so everything you fight in it is at least on par with Anor Londo and Ornstein and Smough.
It does completely unbalance PvP though, anything that's not a DEX/FTH or DEX/INT build will get absolutely wrecked by someone of equal skill who's playing one. Less important for me as I don't care about the new arena but it bothers some people.
