| So yeah, I decided that I needed a Digimon general thread for opinions about Digimon and figured I would start with just reviewing the ones I remember.
Season 1: 7 kids get sucked into a magical world of digital monsters during their summer camp and must find a way to get back home by teaming up with these Digimon. The first season is a magical tale of children and how they have silly adventures until Dracula shows up. Actually, for a kids show that was dubbed during the 90s this show still managed to keep some of the dark stuff, even down to the references to the devil and the death of loved characters. It really gets crazy when Myotismon shows up and really... it should've probably ended after Myotismon because the 4 Evil Lords are so fucking goofy you can't take them seriously. When they are first fought they completely trash the group then they just become silly as hell, especially Puppetmon and Piedmon, good lord. Also, seeing an evolution sequence every damned episode with that stock footage was fucking ridiculous, THIS WOULD BECOME A STAPLE OF THE SERIES FROM HERE ON OUT, JESUS CHRIST! As much as I'm bitching about that however, the cast of main characters was very enjoyable in that instead of being stupid kids the whole series like most kids anime it actually has the characters grow up and develop and they are much better for this, except Matt that bitch.
Season 2: 3 kids get sucked into the digital world and meet Digimon who now evolve into Armor modes because some douchey guy with silly glasses and purple hair blocks them out from doing it. This season was bad bad bad. First of all, the armor evolutions. There was never any indication of what level these evolutions were on because when the armor digimon couldn't beat someone, another Digimon would do a regular evolution to champion (Secondary) level and then just trash them. It gets worse when later in the second season, they treat champion levels like some big thing and for the most part they seem stronger than the armor evolutions which is retarded. The villains for season after the Digimon Emperor take a huge nosedive too. Seriously, after him you get some goofy mummy and a silly spider lady and then... BLACKWARGREYMON, HOLY SHIT! Blackwargreymon was the only legit villain they had and he went anti-hero after a while because he was so neutral towards either side. After him was Daemon for a while but he was dropped for no reason and put into a hole, just like they did with another storyline that was started and scrapped with this season. After him, Myotismon returns due to an entirely asinine reason and is killed in an equally asinine manner. The new main characters are all bland, Davis remains the same annoying dumbass, Yolei is still a lovestruck idiot, and Cody is just... bleh. TK and Kari are still fine but get a bit grating at points and the fact that the old characters show up to try and save the show sometimes doesn't help. This season also has an awful conclusion that pretty much killed the first two seasons for most fans and this season pretty much says that anyone can become a digidestined which diminishes the importance of a digidestined. The only good things about this season are Steve Blum, Blackwargreymon, the older characters (To an extent) and the music... kind of.
Season 3: My favorite season. The past two seasons are regarded as a TV show in this season and it goes by its own story separating itself from the last two. One thing that is thrown out immediately are deaths. In Season 1 and 2, when a Digimon died, they never really died they were just reborn into Primary Village where they would become eggs and just hatch back into their baby forms. In Season 3 when a Digimon dies, THEY DIE. There is no restart button, no go back to start card and no primary village, it made everything that much more serious. Another this series had, NOTHING BUT LEGIT VILLAINS. Not a single major villain in this series was ever a joke, they were all threatening. Icedevimon, Hypnos, Beelzemon, the Devas, the D-Reaper, ESPECIALLY THE FUCKING D-REAPER! They did everything to build them up as threats, hell, Beelzemon even did the unthinkable for this series, he not only nearly killed the main Digimon but he did it while that Digimon was in their forced Digivolution (See Skullgreymon from Season 1 and whatever Veemon turned in to). It also powered up Digimon by using cards, the power of friendship really didn't come into play for evolutions until the Mega forms. It also received the least editing which is once again, rather surprising for a post-Columbine cartoon that not only had guns but even zoomed in on the bullets at one point. It also deconstructs the tropes used in the first two seasons and it does not play around with the adventure aspect of this series. Yes, they spend part of it in the Digital World but they do their best to make it look nice and wonderous while making it vicious and terrifying. It shows how dangerous these monsters can be in real life even if they're well intentioned and breaks down a kind little girl's mind to the point where she nearly destroys a city by using what was a harmless computer program that becomes the blob. It even shows that people pretty much forget about what happens in the end when there is no physical evidence and it's pretty sad. Hell, it shows what happens when you try and make a joke villain, he ends up becoming frustrated and will do anything to get power and becomes a big fucking threat after doing so. If you're gonna watch a Digimon series, make this the one you watch because it is fantastic.
Season 4: I cannot describe how much I hate this show it is so bad. Just look up any review of it online and you'll probably find the words to sum up my hate.

| In season 4, it had people turning into Digimon. I think that alone sums it up decently enough. | |

| I seriously cannot get over how good Digimon Season 3 is, I need to see if there's a box set of it.
EDIT: Dammit, there's none on Amazon.

| I remember back in the day I got into Digimon cuz Pokemon got way to popular and obviously I was way too cool to continue with the popular fad. I was as much of a dick at 11 as I am now I guess. | |

| Season 3 was great, but my God, that whole angst story going on with Jerry/Jeri/whatever-the-hell-her-name-is was terrible. The only good part about that situation was Impmon having some decent character development. He's pretty much the best character in that whole series after he stops being just an annoying prick like in the pre-Digital World episodes. | |

I thought Jeri's angst was fine. Especially since she didn't go batshit from the start, she just started slowly losing her mind over the series after Leomon's death and then it hits fucking critical mass in time for the D-Reaper to capitalize on it. Except for this. This was... a bit much.

| That was part of the D-Reaper impersonating her wasn't it?
Speaking of which, how the hell did that switch happen, how did no one see her go missing? I haven't seen it in so long but, if I recall correctly, she was angsting around for a bit, disappears and then shortly comes back later looking all looney(which is really the fake Jeri). How'd that all happen so quickly?

| Digimon season 3 was epic in every sense. It just seemed more important and serious compared to how season 2 was. And I liked it up until that one little girl turned evil, and then braught evil back to the real world.. I dunno. I loved it a lot though. Especially the card parts and having less digidestined kids the better. guilmon terriormon and renemon being the coolest ever. | |

| The D-Reaper was great, if a bit too invincible but they made up for that by doing something most guys who write anime don't do. Instead of just making the character super powerful with friendship or crap, all that happened was they reset it back to being a harmless program because they couldn't destroy it. | |

| Anyway, on a related note, any of you played those old Digimon games on ps1? I had the original Digimon World and the 3rd one. Still haven't finished the latter after all these years, though. I just stopped. It became too tedious and boring. Sad because as I have the PAL version, it has all that extra stuff that the US one didn't get. Kind of an insult to all the unfortunate US players.
I have more nostalgic memories of the first one though. The pet aspect of it blew at times, but finding and meeting all the digimon was pretty fun.

| I played them. Long, long ago. So long ago that I remember nothing worth noting, making this a useless post. Yep. | |

| Yeah. Digimon World 2003 was basically the 3rd one. They changed the title after we got screwed over and didn't get the second game(and I was so psyched for it too since the game's freaking guide was released in stores here). Fortunately, as I mentioned before, at least they gave us extra crap in DW2003 that the US version of it didn't have. I should try to finish it some time, I was near the end of the game.
The first Digimon World was more fun for me though. None of the tedious running around and constant random battling every few seconds. I remember spending a short while trying to get MetalGreymon by constantly fulfilling those special conditions, battling constantly outside that beginning city. Good times.
I think my favourite part in the story was going to Myotismon's castle.

| The most satisfyling part to me was building city back together. And having all the digimon you meet open up a new store that killed time. | |

| I never got past Myotismon's castle because I was like 9 when I played it and I always kept getting killed wherever I went. | |
