Cleared darts, shogi, golf and massage. Darts was as easy as in 3 and for shogi I used a strategy I found on gamefaqs (I feel a bit cheap, but I have no intention whatsoever to learn japanese chess). Golf, which I considered the second hardest minigame in 3, is now a joke. You can find special, advanced equipment and the game shows you how much power you to apply to reach the hole. I forgot to mention earlier that UFO catcher has also gotten quite easier. The prizes are placed in ways that make it really easy to catch and all of them can be found in the Nakamichi club.
The massage minigame is just sooo wrong. I'm glad I don't speak Japanese and I don't have to hear all the sexual innuendos. Super VIP course is the most disturbing thing I've ever seen in a videogame. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but you guys have to see it. Oh, and unfortunately the minigame itself is hard.

the fact that she calls you big brother is enough for me not to want to go back to the massage parlor. her face alone creeps me out. i couldn't tell if she was a midget granny or a senior citizen faced kid
It was very ironic how I accidentally beat my old nemesis, the expert pool rotation, on my first try (took me days in Y3) and I was so sure that nothing else could give me trouble while I was heading into the mahjong palace. Oh my God, mahjong was a nightmare to complete. I got so pissed off that I was unable to sleep and I spent the whole night furiously playing it.

My copy of this should be here in a couple of weeks, no idea when I'm going to play it with Dark Souls, Saints Row and Batman on my plate but I'm sure I'll get around to it.
Also if this represents the game in any way I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it, I'm a sucker for music.

Its a great game i'm sure you'll enjoy it if you've never played it before, would probably be worth picking up 3 after you've finished 4 if you like it. Seeing as its actually bigger, and way more hardcore, plus you'll want to grow more attached to Kazuma seeing as he's the lead in 5.

I had a look for 3 but it wasn't available without paying much more than I want to. I'll keep an eye out though if it's around the same as I got this for I might pick it up.
Believe it or not right after I posted that I checked Ozgameshop again and they had it in stock for $23 so I went ahead and ordered it. I really need to stop spending money just because things are cheap.

If you want to play the games in order, don't play Y3 on anything above normal, then play Y4 on hard.
Either way just play Y4 on hard even on hard its really easy. You can't choose Ex Hard unless you complete the game first.

Yeah I'll be playing them in order, that site is usually really reliable so it shouldn't arrive more than a few days after 4 does and I've got plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime.
Any reason why I shouldn't play 3 on hard or would it just be too difficult for someone who's never touched the series before?

Its more so that 4 doesn't suck balls, i think you're good enough at games in general to easily get through 3 on hard, that said the first 3 bosses in 3 are fucking hard.
The first boss is a boss that shows up a lot in the series and is notoriously hard, I think he's nerfed compared to earlier games as they know you don't have that big an arsenal of moves, but to a newcomer to the series that might be as frustrating as fuck. The second boss isn't too hard, but still for early game compared to most games he's tough. The third one i assume would give a newcomer quite a lot of trouble.

Ah ok, I guess I'll just wait and see how the difficulty in 3 treats me. I'll just ask you guys if I hit a brick wall - if you've all beaten the game multiple times you must have strategies or something.
Spoiler:
You can ask the same of me when you play Dark Souls.
