| The most unlikely god damn thing happens. Something I always feared. A fucking blackout happened while I was playing my PS3. I always take care of that damn machine, I always turn the system off before pressing the power switch at the back unlike some incompetent people do, and yet...this happens.
I'm not sure it's fine, if it's screwed, I just don't know.
What the hell does one do in this situation? And if I check and it's seemingly fine for now(which is the most likely event to happen), has it been damaged in some way that I'm unaware until one day when it comes back to bite me in the ass?
Keep in mind I wasn't exactly saving my game or anything either. I was just busy playing some mission in Sly 2.
And before anyone pointlessly brings it up, yes I've backed up all my saves(very recently I might add). Well, all the saves that don't have some bullshit lock to it.

| I don't get what the problem is. The power went out when you were playing PS3?
Where is the problem there? It wont blow up or anything. Def not the end of the world. It's not good for it yea but it won't break it. Just don't make a habit of having black outs in your area.

| What will happen is when you next turn it on, it'll say "The PS3 system was not turned off properly. I'M NOT PLAYING WITH YOU ANYMORE YOU TWAT", and then it'll never work again. | |

>___________________________________________________> Anyway, I tested the ps3 a while ago and it seems to be working fine when I tried playing my game and such, but it was making weird scratching noises(not those loud pounding ones when you HDD is being accessed or whatever the hell causes those, those ones are normal) that I've never heard of before. The fan was also pretty loud, I assume that'll stop next time I turn it on.

| Also, I never turn off the power switch on the back. | |

| Unless it was accessing the HDD.
Also power surges way worse then power cuts.

Of course it's not. I'd rather shut it down and turn it off properly than leave it on stand by all the time. - Superbuu3 wrote:

Also power surges way worse then power cuts. Yeah, after the power went out, I quickly turned the the switch at the back before the power returned. I was lucky it didn't come back right away.

| There is nothing wrong with leaving it on stand by. As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as off on the slims. It is always in standby. | |

| Yes, I know that the Slim doesn't have the switch. But still, I'd rather not do so with mine. Leaving it on stand by just doesn't make me feel comfortable. Maybe It's because I just underestimate the ps3 all the time. I worry too much about it and think the smallest issue is the end of the world for it. That and back in the day, DSK's ps3s kept dying(he's on his 4th one now if I'm not mistaken), that didn't help.
Anyway, regarding the blackout, I still can't belieave I was unfortunate enough to have that happen. I always worry about this exact situation and bam, there it came. Talk about focusing on the negative...

| Stand-by is basically off. Nothing in the machine is at work other than the internal clock, which is always at work whether it has a power supply or not. It just means you can turn it on by remote control, like a TV. Or an Xbox. Those are always on stand-by, they just don't have that little light to indicate it.
Now, Remote Play stand-by is something else. If have your PS3 set so that you can use your PSP to activate the PS3 at any time, then the system is always on. Even on standby you can hear it humming away.
