Apparently Sasuke is a deep character and one of the best shonen manga villains.

Sas uke is the best because he isn't standard for any shonen rival to be. Without him there'd be no Naurto to publish since Kishimoto's editor requested he be put in to make the manga less than one demensional.

He's invicible, he's not. All his fights had to be gimped in order for him to win, reguardless, he's supposed to be talented and the top of the game because it makes a good sales pitch for Sas uke the genius to conflict against Naurto the underdog. Pull shit out his ass is something you can't seem to accept because he's a genius not a scrapper underdog like Naurto.

Sas uke as a concept is supposed to be different from the typical shonen rival as well, his story, motivations and skills are developed on his characters obession with revenge which conflicts the light hearted ness with Naurto's dreams for acknowledgement.

Kishimoto wanted Sas uke to be hated to establish the perfect rival and the perfect foil. And for that he's the best character in the manga.

I like him because of his story and general character. It's clear that Kishimoto put a lot of time and care into the Uchiha family story as a whole, and it's really that subplot that kept me interested in the series from very early on. I've always liked the avenger archetype anyway, but when Itachi dies, the traditional story is suddenly given a twist.

Sas uke, in avenging his family's deaths, essentially killed the wrong man and he suddenly learns that his whole life has been a lie. He went down the path to darkness for what he believed to be an honorable cause, but things went awry on him. Instead of immediately recovering from it and becoming 'good', he does what is arguably the more natural thing. He gets worse. Is what he doing stupid? Yes. But is it understandable? Of course.

Sas uke acknowledges the fact that he's being a fool. Sas uke does not beg for excuses. People make them for him, but he has never tried to explain himself away. He explicitly states that he knows he's acting as a child and going against Itachi's wishes. His outrage and desire to destroy Konoha right now is very natural, and whether people want to admit it or not, it's the path (or at least the mindset) most anyone could easily end up going down after such a shock.

Because of all of this, there is something so very human in Sas uke, a humanity that the majority of the other characters lack.

To add:

1) Avenger archetype.
2) Anti-hero sort.
3) Not obnoxiously optimistic, something I despise in characters.
4) Has very clear flaws and acknowledges them.
5) Interesting backstory.
6) Believable and human descent into his current emotional state (you can argue all you want that his fall makes no sense, but expecting him to shut up, accept Itachi's wish, and become good again after the horror of his last eight years is far too much to ask of any remotely realistic character).
7) Cool attacks with variation (Susuano'o and Tsukiyomi may both be MS, but you can hardly throw them in the same category).
Sword-fighter, at least for a while.
9) Clothes are not glaringly offensive to one's eyes.
10) UCHIHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You shouldn't. Naruto may be a bad main character but he's far more bearable than Sasuke.
