I think my PS3 is dying...

It freezes a lot every time it starts.

are you able to start games or does it freeze at the main menu?

At the main menu. And on top of that I'm getting a message telling me next time to turn off the system the right way.

i think that's the exact same thing that happened to my friend, his old one froze at the main menu and eventually the power light started flashing yellow when he tries to turn it on and it didn't work anymore....

newer gen consoles seem to get more and more fragile.....

This the first time one of my consoles dies in two years (and a month I think).

my 360 has dies twice in the last 3 years

It looks like I'll have to buy a new PS3 soon. Damn, I'd rather buy shoes.

why not try send it in for repairs if it does start to flash yellow? that might be the cheaper way though it will take more time

I probably should back up my saves although i dunno if i got games that need that.

Hmm, now it said something about the hard drive being corrupted and restoring the PS3.

If its a 60gb and its not well ventilated and you play it for extended periods of time it probably is

Nah, it's a 40gb model. It's kinda weird though that it only freezes at the main menu and not during games or downloads.

Add ons and Games downloaded from PSN are linked to your account. So you won't lose those. Obviously if your talking about game saves if you haven't backed them up they're obviously lost.
