Chou gohan and the super saiyan issue

What do y'all think?

i think it really depends on what you think the pre requisite to be a super saiyan is

It's not hard to figure out to me. He tried to go SSJ and he didn't.

Therefore, Mystic Gohan can't go SSJ.

Mystic? And when did he try to turn into a SSJ?

When Old Kaioshin asked him to.

a common argument i saw against him not turning SS was ppl saying that he had all his power unlocked

thing is if thats the case why did he even need to power up

aside from what grand kai said, which i pretty much took as one of the main reasons he probably can't turn SS, he doesn't bother going SS against SB2 which you think he would given the situation, well if he was capable

He asks Old Kaioshin how to bring his power out, Old Kaioshin tells him to 'do that Super Saiyan thing'. Gohan tries it, and with all his power released he still looks the same. Ergo, no more SSJ. He can still raise and lower his power though, as demonstrated against Super Buu; Buu mocks Gohan, at which point Gohan raises his ki momentarily, leaving Goten, Trunks and Piccolo slack jawed, and Buu looking a little frightened.

Well actually, Gohan did change a bit. He basically looks like an SSJ(2?) without the golden hair and green eyes. His hair bang changed slightly and his eyes look more serious(as AT draws them when a character becomes a Super Saiyan).

Before the Old Kai told him to go "Super Saiyan".


After the Old Kai told him to change.

Toei kind of fucked up on that because his hair and eyes changes all the time until Gohan face Buu where it stays consistent.

Then Gohan gets wished back and he switches around again.

Then there's a moment in GT episode of 62 or 63 where he has that bang again.

I never noticed. Although I do like how Toei bothered to be consistent with it later even in that filler episode with Goku being late and shit.

Despite Gohan actually not looking serious at times(he doesn't need to look pissed), you can see his eyes actually have outlines all around them instead of just stopping halfway.

Yeah well technically Gohan just powers up like he's going SSJ but Chou is like a False SSJ from Lord Slug I guess.

I wonder what Toei's explanation of GT is?

It couldn't have been, since everyone knew from the power he showed that he would get the job done. He had surpassed SSJ3 Goku.

but the z-fighters never needed to see anyones full power to see they were freaking strong
I mean goku knew cell had him beat

Gohan may not have powered up fully on the Kai's planet, but his display still left Goku looking amazed. In itself, that may not be enough to say Gohan had surpassed him, as you could argue that Goku was merely shocked at how far Gohan had come in such a short space of time.

Buu, you also raise a good point. Goku knew from just standing in front of a surpressed Cell that he couldn't win, yet the telling thing with Gohan's brief power up against Super Buu is that not only do Piccolo, Trunks and Goten look staggered, but Super Buu himself is left open mouthed too... that wouldn't happen unless Gohan's power was beyond Buu's.

In any case, the point I was making was that either way Gohan can still raise and lower his own power; either you believe he showed it all on the Kai planet, in which case he must have then powered down en route to face Buu or you think he had enough control not to power up all the way, hence being able to raise himself even further in front of Buu.
