JUST BLEACH EVERY DAY

Okay, I'm going to do the exact same shit Kaio did with the One Piece thing. Every day, I will read one chapter of Bleach so we can observe where it went wrong. I might do coupled chapters when I'm feeling sassy.

No, you're insane. DON'T DO THIS TO YOURSELF.

I stopped doing it because making write ups was too tedious because in some chapters there was quite a bit of information.

But luckily for you that won't be a problem with Bleach.

Enjoy the parts that were still good.

VOLUME 1: THE DEATH AND THE STRAWBERRY



Chapter 1: Death and Strawberry (February 10th, 2010)



Summary
Ichigo Kurosaki is your average 15-Year Old Japanese High School Student, except not really since he can see ghosts. Ichigo explains how he's been able to see ghosts his entire life as if they were regular people. He comes home to his family and heads straight to his room after picking a fight with his childish father. There in his room a hole opens in his wall and out pops a beautiful girl dressed in a black Kimono with a katana under her belt. After much confusion, she explains to Ichigo how she is a "Soul Reaper", the types of souls (Pluses and Hollows), and what exactly Soul Reapers are. Ichigo hears the wail of banshee and heads downstairs with the Soul Reaper to see a hollow trying to eat his family. The Soul Reaper explains how the hollow was probably going after Ichigo and Ichigo feels guilt over it. Feeling guilty, he goes on to fight the hollow head on and the Soul Reaper uses her body as a shield before the hollow eats him. Rukia explains how the only way for them to kill the hollow now is for Ichigo to become a Soul Reaper. Ichigo sees his beaten and bruised family and hears their cries for him to run away. He smiles at how they're worrying about him and feels he'd be a real dumbass if he just ran. The Soul Reaper properly introduces herself as Rukia Kuchiki and turns Ichigo into a Hollow. Ichigo then proceeds to kill the Hollow with his newfound powers as Rukia looks on in awe.

Opinion
Good chapter. I realized that Kubo had trouble with backgrounds before Hueco Mundo but it's not as bad as it becomes later and really Ichigo is a rather likeable guy right now. It starts off Ichigo and Rukia's relationship well and builds enough foreshadowing for later.

In Retrospect
This chapter has a lot of setups for future events, Shinji, and who Isshin actually is and was very good writing on Kubo's part. Like I have said time and again, Kubo is a very good writer, read Zombie Powder for proof, but even Bleach was well written until the Arrancar showed up.

Chapter 2: Starter (February 11, 2010)



Summary
The next morning, Ichigo wakes up to see that his family's injuries are healed and their memories of last night have been replaced. He heads to school to learn that there is a new student in his class, Rukia Kuchiki. The exact same girl from last night who helped him save his family. She explains to him that the reason she is there and visible by regular people now is because of her Artificial Body, a body which can be seen by other humans and used for Soul Reapers to lay low while in the Human World. She also tells Ichigo how he must now take up the mantle as a substitute Soul Reaper since he sucked up nearly all of her abilities when he became one. Ichigo refuses saying that he's not going to go around saving people he doesn't know. Rukia forcibly removes Ichigo from his own body and takes him to a park where a child's soul will be attacked. They get there and many minutes later, sure enough, that child is attacked. Ichigo goes to help the child but Rukia stops him, saying that if he's going to save one soul he must save all of them or save none of them. Ichigo goes forward and stops the hollow, Rukia takes this as Ichigo's accepting her proposition. But Ichigo retorts that it wasn't her duty to save him last night, so why should he do so. He explains that he's not so nice that he's going to go around saving everyone but he's not heartless that he won't save people in danger if he can do something about it. Rukia accepts Ichigo's opinion and they begin their partnership.

Opinion
Another good chapter, Rukia's character becomes more well established, it showed more of Kubo's goofiness that he inserts, and well, the background loss is less in number than the last chapter. Three of Ichigo's friends were also introduced but since they contributed nothing important I'm going to wait until later to properly introduce them.

Character of the Chapter
Rukia, because she shows how while she is hard-assed and tough on Ichigo, she can accept his opinion and care about his feelings.

In Retrospect
What happened to Orihime being likeable, why is Rukia less important in later chapters despite being established as the most important person that Ichigo's ever met since this all started, what happened to Kubo's random but funny little panels AND WHY IN THE NAME OF FUCK ARE TRANSLATORS SUCKING A TIMELESS THING!?

Chapter 3: Headhittin' (February 12th, 2010)




Summary
One of Ichigo's friends, Orihime Inoue, is walking down the street after coming from a mart and a car heads towards her before we transition to the next day. The Next Day, Ichigo and Rukia are practicing hitting what parts of a hollow by having Ichigo hits balls with "Head" and "Hand" on them, although, Rukia's drawings make it nearly impossible to tell the difference. Orihime shows up and Ichigo refreshes Rukia's mind as to who Orihime is. Ichigo notices a bandage on Orihime's arm and she says it's because she got hit by a car because she's careless. Rukia writes her off as a ditz until she notices an enormous scar on Orihime's leg and asks her what happened. Orihime believes that the scar also came from her getting hit by a car and then leaves afterwards. Rukia asks Ichigo if he's close with Orihime and he says he's not really that close to her but she did come to his family's clinic while trying to get someone to help her brother before he died. Orihime's brother then died while being loaded into a Ambulance for a Hospital. Rukia begins to think hard about this, Ichigo asks Rukia what she's thinking so hard about and she just shrugs him off, much to his anger. Later at his home, Ichigo comes back to his room from taking a bath and hears a beeping noise in the house. His closet door slams open and Rukia turns out to be inside of it telling him a hollow's coming. Ichigo asks her where it's coming from after wondering why she was in his closet and she bluntly says "HERE AND NOW!", she forces Ichigo's soul from his body before a claw comes out of nowhere trying to kill him. Out of the hole from where the claw came appears the hollow, Ichigo slices part of its mask off before it flees. Rukia says that they have to chase after it but Ichigo stops her asking something. Why does that hollow have the face of Orihime's brother? Rukia says that the reason why most hollows should be stricken from the back of the head and not the front is so you don't figure out who the hollow once was since all hollows used to be human. The chapter ends with a teddy bear inside of Orihime's house being torn apart by the head.

Opinion
About Average, while this chapter had the beginning of good atmosphere at the end, the beginning sort of drug for a while until we got to Orihime's past. Oh and why in the hell did no one come to Ichigo's room to wonder why so much noise was being made when the hollow was attacking?

Character of the Chapter
Orihime, because of the random shit she had in that bag to eat and the song she made up.

In Retrospect
Orihime was a rather tragic character thanks to her past but she still remained strong in emotional strength. Keep that in mind for later when she becomes nothing more than a fountain of emotional distress that tries hard to be tragic but just becomes annoying!

Translators are Cancer

The above panel is a mistranslation BUT IT IS A BIG ONE. This is not something small, this is something that actually becomes important later in the "Memories in the Rain" part of Bleach, one of the most well-written parts of Bleach. Tatsuki has known Ichigo since they were children, they even went to the same karate dojo, Ichigo has lived in Karakura his entire life, so Tatsuki couldn't have moved in during Eighth grade since MASAKI WAS ALREADY DEAD BY THAT POINT! Way to go translators, your scope of laziness astounds me.

Chapter 4: Why Do You Eat It? (February 13th, 2010)




Summary
Ichigo and Rukia begin heading for Orihime's house. Meanwhile, at her home, Tatsuki Arisawa is busy talking to Orihime about Ichigo until Orihime's teddy bear falls down and she notices it has a cut on its head. From the stuffing of the bear suddenly leaks blood and an enormous claw shoots out impaling Orihime's chest. Back with Rukia and Ichigo, Rukia explains to Ichigo that hollows attack their families first before they begin going wayward and attacking random people, such as Widow's following their husbands to the grave. Hollows eat other humans souls to ease their suffering and pain since hollows are fallen souls who haven't been accepted into the Soul Society and have lost their hearts. Back with Orihime and Tatsuki, Orihime wakes up to see Tatsuki being attacked by a monster and notices a chain in her chest now. She rams the monster, stopping it from crushing Tatsuki and the monster lashes at Orihime yelling at her about recognizing her own brother. The chapter ends with Ichigo showing up to stop the hollow from delivering the final blow.

Opinion
Average chapter, Orihime being impaled as a surprise and it's nice to see hollows getting more explanation but it went far too slowly.

Tatsuki, because she's Tatsuki.

Chapter 5: Binda•blinda and Chapter 6: microcrack. (February 14th and 15th, 2010)



Summary
Ichigo looks over and notices Tatsuki's body lying on the floor and Orihime's too but he doesn't understand since Orihime is right next to him. Acidwire comes up to Ichigo to tell him that Orihime is already dead and swats him out of the room onto the street. Acidwire then notices Orihime trying to escape and biting him and asks her if he's really forgotten her before flipping up her bangs and revealing part of his face as Orihime recognizes him as her brother, Sora Inoue. Meanwhile, back on the street Rukia wake's up Ichigo and has to remind that if he does lose then Sora will eat Orihime's soul. Meanwhile, back in the room Sora confirms that it is him then Orihime asks him why he hurt Ichigo and Tatsuki, his response is that they tried to tear him and Orihime apart. Sora tells that tale of how he always saw Orihime pray for him every day, then when she met Tatsuki she started praying for him less and less, then finally when she met Ichigo she stopped praying for him altogether. He then says how the loneliness made him want to kill. After swatting Ichigo away again, Orihime says that the brother she had wouldn't do things like this, he wouldn't hurt people she cared about. Sora snaps and roars about how it was Orihime's fault he became a hollow to begin with and he repeats that he'll kill her, over and over again. Ichigo now tears into him and slices Sora up remarking "Do you know why the older sibling is born first? It's so they protect their younger siblings! Any older brother who says he'll kill his younger sister is pure scum!", the chapter ends with Sora cursing Ichigo.

The chapter starts off with Sora retelling his and Orihime's past. How when he was 15 Orihime was, how his parents were awful people who would sooner beat the child until it was quiet rather than try to stop it with care. When Sora was 18, he took Orihime and ran away from home and they lived together from then on. Sora reflects that Orihime was more like a daughter to him than a little sister, how he was the one who protected her and raised her and how no one else but him can have her. Ichigo yells at him that Orihime is Orihime and how she doesn't belong to anyone with Sora insisting more and more that Orihime belongs to him and how if Orihime won't live for him then she will die for him. Sora sinks his teeth into Orihime as she hugs him explaining that she stopped praying for him because she thought he didn't want to see her unhappy and that he wanted to hear about the things she enjoyed so she could show him that she was happy and wouldn't have to worry about her. Orihime falls down saying that she didn't realize she was making him sad and that she loves him. Rukia shows up (Finally) and says that she can still save Orihime as long as the Chain of Fate is intact. Sora sits aside explaining that he knew why Orihime stopped but he didn't want her to stop because that was when her heart was all his when she did pray. Ichigo remarks that she's been wearing the hairpins Sora gave her for her birthday and Sora comments how he never he even noticed before he picks up Ichigo's Zanpakuto trying to kill himself. Ichigo tries to stop him but Rukia explains that he won't truly die because when hollows are killed by a Zanpakuto they are cleansed of all of their sins and go to the Soul Society. Sora begins fading as Orihime recalls her and Sora's last moments together when they had a fight because Orihime didn't like his birthday gift (The hairpins), they didn't speak when they ate dinner for the first time and they slept facing opposite from each other and how Sora died on his way to work the next day. Sora fades with Orihime wishing him to have what she wanted to wish him before he left for work that day, "Sora, have a nice day." and Sora disappears with a smile on his face. The chapter ends after Rukia replaces Orihime and Tatsuki's memories and with Orihime and Tatsuki just fine at school the next day.

Opinion
Nice way to wrap up this arc of chapters and to move on to the next one.

Character of the Chapters
Sora, he expresses his sorrow and grief rather well but it's nice to see he could change for his sister no matter what the circumstances.

And then comes the next and an even bigger problem, SORA IS NOT ONCE NAMED THROUGHOUT ANY OF THESE CHAPTERS. He's only referred to as "Orihime's Brother" or "Brother" not once is he called by his actual name which is kind of I dunno, IMPORTANT!

The Anime Sucks
Apparently Grand Fisher turned Sora into a hollow not Sora's own grief and sorrow WHICH IS WHAT TURNS PEOPLE INTO HOLLOWS, NOT THE HOLLOWS THEMSELVES, ESPECIALLY NOT ONE LIKE GRAND FISHER.

Chapter 7: The Pink-Cheeked Parakeet (February 16th, 2010)



Summary
At a construction site, Yasutora "Chad" Sado and two of his friends are talking about a bird in front of them that's brought death to every one of its owners and the current owner tries to pass it off on one of them until an I-Beam falls and Chad blocks it with his body. The bird begins speaking to Chad and Chad talks back to it. Back at school, Rukia and Ichigo eat lunch on top of the school's roof while Rukia is introduced to two more of Ichigo's friends, Keigo Asano (Loser) and Mizuiro Kojima (Womanizer). Chad shows up too with the bird too and has bruises all over him. He explains how an I-Beam fell on him giving him the initial bruises and he got more from a motorcycle hitting this morning but the rider was more injured than him so he took the rider to the hospital which is why he came to school late. Ichigo and Rukia notice a soul inside of the bird besides its own and Rukia assures that it's a good soul and it's nothing to rush about. Later when Ichigo gets home, his family is busy with many injured people from a huge car crash and after Ichigo is shoved aside to sit in a corner, Chad shows up worse than he was int he morning. Isshin checks Chads wounds and when Ichigo sees the giant bruise resembling a claw he becomes dread-filled. Chad wakes up later to notice the bird next to him and Rukia in Ichigo's room explains to him that she sensed a hollow even from way up there. The chapter ends with Chad's hospital bed empty and the window of the room wide open.

Opinion
FUCK YEAH, Chad time, it's a shame he's going to become useless later.

Character of the Chapter
Chad, because taking an I-Beam to the back, being hit by a motorcycle, liking cute things, and TAKING A GIANT CLAW TO THE BACK makes you fucking awesome.

Chapter 8: Chase Chad Around (February 17th, 2010)



Summary
Ichigo wakes up and notices that Karin isn't at breakfast, Yuzu explains that Karin's been feeling sick lately and Ichigo finds that strange since he knows even sickness wouldn't stop Karin. Isshin rushes in to tell everyone that Chad is missing. Ichigo rushes to school looking for Chad and asks Mizuiro if he's seen him, he doesn't get any answers so he leaves in search of him and Rukia catches up with him. Meanwhile, at Karakura Primary School, Karin is puking her guts up while Yuzu and her friend stand by. Karin yells at Yuzu to go get her bag as she's going home early due to this sickness. Meanwhile, Ichigo and Rukia can't find the hollow nor can they find Chad or the bird. Rukia explains to him that the hollow is probably hiding between worlds so as to not be caught. Ichigo gets sick of running around and stands still to try and focus so he can find the bird, Spirit Ribbons that are connected to a person's soul pop up and Ichigo finds the one that leads to the bird much to Rukia's surprise. Meanwhile, Chad is hiding out in a shed of some sort, although the bird keeps telling Chad to ditch him and run away but Chad ignores the birds cries saying he'll help it. Something attacks Chad and Chad runs out onto the street in front of Rukia and Ichigo. They proceed to chase him but they find Karin nearly passed out on the side of the street. Rukia tells Ichigo to take Karin home and that she'll follow Chad. Ichigo warns her to be careful as she hasn't gotten all of her powers back and begins taking Karin home. Karin begs Ichigo to help the bird because she saw his memories, the strongest memory that stood out was the murder of its mother. The chapter ends with a shadowy figure appearing behind Rukia as she's chasing down Chad.

Opinion
Nice foreshadowing but we could've done without watching Karin puke up her guts.

Character of the Chapter
Karin, because we might as well get as much of her as we're going to get.

Chapter 9: Monster and a Transfer



Summary
Karin explains to Ichigo the suffering that Yuichi had to go through and she wants Ichigo to help him. After putting her to bed Ichigo runs off to help Rukia. Meanwhile, Rukia chases Chad until she's attacked by a hollow, after her attempts to fend off the hollow are useless, Chad saves her by punching the hollow. Rukia knows that Human's can't see hollows but can touch them so she assumes Chad could see it until he starts running around trying to find it making her realize he was really just taking a guess at where it was. After slamming the hollow in the face again, it takes to the sky and Rukia warns Chad of the hollow's incoming attack. Chad asks her to tell him where the hollow is and Rukia asks why as Chad can't really do anything about it UNTIL HE TEARS OUT A TELEPHONE LINE POLE, HE THEN SLAMS IT INTO THE HOLLOW AFTER RUKIA GIVES SOME DIRECTION AND THIS ENDS THE CHAPTER!

CHAD SLAMS A FUCKING TELEPHONE POLE INTO A HOLLOW, NEED I SAY MORE?

Except for the upcoming hollow invasion, this is about as badass as Chad gets in the entire series, which is really fucking sad because Kubo had so much potential with this character... hell, he's Ichigo's best friend he deserved something better than what he got.

Side Comment
Kubo has a great fashion sense and made really good chapter pictures at the start of the series, it's a shame they become so dull and boring later except for the colored chapters.

Auuughh. Early Bleach art hurts my eyes.

I think the points where bleach goes awkward and bad are when Ichigo meets Renji and byakuya. Then the next time is when SS arc ends, then when Ichi and co go to HM. Those are the 3 turnarounds that effect the stability and goodness that the story came to one after another once it built something new we liked...

Chapter 10: Monster and a Transfer pt.2 [The Deathberry]



Summary

The fight with Shrieker has been raging on (FOR A WHOLE YEAR, NO LESS.) with Chad and Rukia dominating the son of a bitch. Shrieker pulls out his trump card, his familiars that spit out leeches. When these leeches are attached to someone Shrieker can use his forked tongue to make a noise that causes the leeches to explode. Rukia and Chad are pinned down by familiars until Chad overpowers the familiars and ends up still nearly taking down Shrieker. He frees Rukia from the familiars and she tries to run off but gets caught by more familiars and when Chad tries to fat back, Shrieker shows that he's captured Yuichi so he can get Chad to stop fighting. Rukia continues on despite being badly damaged from the explosions and is saved by Ichigo stopping Shrieker as the chapter ends.

Opinion

Funny how Chad tried to toss Rukia at Shrieker and Shrieker's familiars are awesome but that's about it. It ate up a lot of pages showing off the familiars and Rukia running.

Character of the Chapter

Shrieker for being the first legitimately threatening hollow.
