So I haven't watched much of DBKai up until now.

I just watched the recent episode and holy fuck did that look fugly to look at. Every character suddenly sticks out like a sore thumb now and doesn't blend with the background nicely. I mean I know the show always looked crap but this just looks like 2D diarrhea.

And what the fuck is this thing?

That's what the redrawn scenes look like. I don't mind it.

I noticed.

I think the problem is that so many other shots look like the characters' outlines are so damn thick when they're not moving and then they're almost invisible when moving, especially Goku's. Goku also looked really retarded when he was talking to Freeza near the beginning of that episode. Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin all looked okay lineart-wise but all their color palettes looked exactly like the crappy flat colors used by fan artists.

Jeez. And these aren't like "OMG THIS ONE FRAME LOOKS BAD", these really are scenes that are really stick out.



(HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA WHAT THE FUCK, they didn't even bother to fix this, they just made it look worse than it originally did)

(The art itself is fine since I think it's the original clip but the coloring just looks retarded now)

Seriously the show was looking so cool way back, why the hell does everything suddenly stick out and look far more inconsistent than usual? Hell, considering the future episodes started to look less outdated, I expected the remastering and redrawn scenes would actually blend in with the touched up old scenes.

The line art stands out because it's unnatural. They tried to match the original line weight, but by the look of it they only used 2 or 3 set widths. Sometimes it can look nice, and the colours are okay compared to the original footage.




Other times you get stuff that just looks wrong.



Overall I don't really care though.

I didn't care much until checking this out after ditching it for so long. I mean everything from way back looked ok then I return to watching this and every second something keeps skipping back and forth in quality, changed art and so forth. It's kind of annoying to watch.

Hopefully it was just this episode(or did the ones before it have it AS BAD?). I mean I'm the one who always sighs at the nerds always bitching about one little frame or something like that but these just stand out for like way longer than they should. >_>

I haven't watched it since the Ginyu fight. But they generally looked nice. The Ginyu Force's introduction was all redrawn and it looked pretty spectacular actually. Definitely the best redrawn scene up to that point.

Oh, apart from the final group shot of them all. That looked messy.

I hope they don't fuck up Super Saiyan Goku's scenes. At least I hope they don't butcher that neat golden look he had when he first changed at the end of that episode but they will probably make it blond to be consistent I guess.

Actually all I saw in the new topic mostly is either praise for the fight moving along faster or that dick cloud.

I decided to catch up on what I missed. Vegeta and Freeza's grappling clash thingy looked alright. Krillin getting skewered was great. They really tried hard to wring every drop of drama out of that moment.

The original was done by various teams of animators. All Kai has done is traced some of it, so it's just the same old animation redrawn.
