Square is going to buy out Atlus.

The idea came from SQEX USA and Europe President John Yamamoto who was Vice President of Atlus USA before joining SQEX back in April 2004. It has been seen that in recent months Square Enix have begun publishing Atlus' games in Europe having obtained some of the license rights due to offering double the amount the current PAL publisher Koei was offering.

The first Atlus game to be published by SQEX in Europe was Odin Sphere. You can see the PAL box art here:

This is still a rumour but it looks likely to be true. Who knows, they may accept the offer after all they ran to SQEX from Koei when SQEX offered more money to publish their games in Europe.

I'd be a bit surprised if that were true.

Honestly, I wouldn't care that much. Although, Atlus does bring a lot of unique Japanese games stateside. I wonder if Square buying them off would change all that.

It didn't change Dragon Quest any.

Squenix is more likely to cash in on their ingenuity than shut it down. They may have been buttfucking with Final Fantasy of late, but they are hardly the EA Games of Japan...

Of equal importance, if Atlus does indeed get bought it, what do you think the new company will be called? You think it'll remain Atlus, or something like Square Atlus Enix or Square Atlus or Atlus Square Enix or something?

i doubt the name will change, but if they do itd probably end up as an abbreviation

I wouldn't mind it'd just remained Atlus. Then there'd probably be like this...

as long as the game quality isnt harmed, im fine with the buyout

A. Much more controversial than Square-Enix

B. Appeal to one demographic rather than more than one like SE attempts to do and fails miserably.
