Anyone seen Jar City?

Icelandic cop murder mystery film. Saw it a couple days ago and it's pretty good. It's one of those films that starts with two different story lines that start to come together as the film goes on, and it did it pretty well. In the one story there's the old cop who's investigating a murder, and he finds connection between the victim and a little girl that died in the 70's. In the other story we have a geneticist who's little daughter has just died of a hereditary genetic disorder. And the film goes from there. To go into it anymore would be to be give out plot details that would kind of make seeing the film the pointless. It's a slow burn of a film, and I imagine knowing a lot about it before seeing it could make it pretty boring. Like cop investigation type films, some of the enjoyment comes from trying to figure it out.

It did get a bit repetitive in terms of score and visuals, but nothing big to complain about. Helicopter shots of a single car on a road in the middle of the Icelandic landscape may get boring after a while, but they still look nice.

Also, there was one moment that bugged me quite a bit, even thouhg it wasn't at all important. In one scene a guy is drinking from a mug, and it was very obvious that the mug was empty and he was acting drinking.

Not in particular. It's just that there's not a lot of good English language films out at the moment, and Greenwich Picture House is showing a lot of foreign films. Usually I wouldn't bother seeing them, but when I saw The Wave there weret railers for a bunch of the ones showing, and they looked good.

some foreign films can be suprisingly good you just have to get through an awful load of crap to find the gems
