I wonder what the final straw was. Overspending on advertising? Bioware's failures? Gave up on taking Call of Duty's market share? Failing to muscle in on Valve through games exclusive to their shitty Origin platform? Karma?

Just goes to show that massive industry presence counts for nothing if you can't keep up with changes in said industry.

The irony is, EA lost out because they tried to win over the casuals. If they didn't make Bioware dumb down ME3 and DA2 they would've made a fortune. Thats not even including other mistakes that i can't be bothered to think about.

When it comes to Bioware ME3 and, to a lesser extent, DA2 are the least of their problems. The big one is The Old Republic, which, although we don't know any numbers for sure, is accepted to be one of, if not the, most expensive MMOs of all time. EA stocks have been on the decline ever since it was released and tanked almost immediately.

Yeah, it even references TOR in the article. At the time of release, it was estimated that the game had cost $150 million to make - that's a huge investment on EA's part, one that seems to have blown up in their faces. The game being mediocre didn't help, of course.

DA2 hurt Bioware more than EA, being a rushed and very sloppy sequel and may have irreparably damaged the Dragon Age franchise. ME3 is a non factor, it was still a crtically and commercially successful game, having currently sold somewhere around 2.45 million copies worldwide. That, and it's still a great game.

Welp, This calls for a celebratory dance.

How far is Activision from the same fate?

Activision has been up for sale for months, problem is nobody wants to buy them because Vivendi is asking for something ridiculous like $8bn.

That's like 20-140 times as much as any military jet costs.

Let them tank. EA's business policies have been utter shit as of late, second only to Capcom.

Though if someone does buy them, let it be Microsoft. Two shit companies will merge and no one will know the difference.
