New trailer 11/01/2013

CD Projekt RED Studio, announced their currently-in-development triple-A game based on renowned pen&paper RPG designer Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk® system.

WARSAW, POLAND (30 May 2012) -- During its Summer Conference today, CD Projekt RED Studio, critically acclaimed RPG developer, announced that it is working on a new triple-A game based on the cult classic Cyberpunk® pen & paper RPG system created by Mike Pondsmith.

At the conference, CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski promised gamers that this game would have all of the hallmarks of the Witcher series that has made the developer so well-known and loved, and even more. Their upcoming RPG will be designed for mature and demanding players who expect to be treated seriously, and the game will be richly detailed, non-linear, and with a complex and gripping story. This much is expected from the talented studio, but the new universe brings with it some new twists in their game design. Players will experience the world through their own, unique characters chosen from different classes - be they blood-thirsty mercenaries or cunning hackers who they will equip with vast choice of cybernetic implants and deadly weapons. As in The Witcher series, players will face morally ambiguous choices, their actions influencing events in the world at large and the fate of the individuals they encounter.

Original "Cyberpunk" game designer Mike Pondsmith was at hand for the conference in Warsaw, Poland. "For over two decades, I've been proud to say that Cyberpunk's been the gold standard of what it means to be a true cyberpunk game. And it's been a huge success for me and our many fans, with over 5 million players worldwide. But over all that time we haven't found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life -- until now. CD Projekt Red is the team we've been hoping for. Their incredible work on The Witcher and The Witcher 2 shows that they share the same dedication and love of great games that we do at Talsorian. I'm especially stoked that they want our participation in making this game a fantastic project that will live up to everything Cyberpunk fans (old and new) have been waiting for. Trust me -- this game is going to rock," said "Maxmike" Pondsmith.

This game will be developed by a new team at CD Projekt RED Studio, composed of veterans from the Witcher franchise. The studio will set new standard in the futuristic RPG genre with an exceptional gaming experience. The most important goal for this division is to create a game matching their vision, a game that corresponds to their high production values.

CDP RED Studio also made several Witcher-related announcements during the Summer Conference. The company revealed sales numbers for "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings," announcing that more than 1.7 million copies have been sold on PC and Xbox 360. Further, The Witcher 2 is expanding its markets. On August 23rd the Xbox version of The Witcher, published by Spike Chunsoft, will hit the stores in Japan, and the studio will bring "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition" to Mac this fall.

CD Projekt RED also announced that it is looking for talented artists, programmers and designers to help create the "Cyberpunk" title. For job listings and details, visit CDPRed.com.

Going above and beyond the call of duty, CDP RED Studio has also offered a free digital back-up copy of "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition" (the first game in the series) to all PC gamers (over 2M of them) who already own the game or plan on buying it in the future, available now at http://www.gog.com/witcherbackup

Dungeons and Dragons ie: dice rolling and shit. The game won't play like that though, they're just using the storyline/universe/etc. Assuming the developer knows what they're doing it usually works out quite well, having a rich backstory was one of the things that made Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines so good.

I've never actually played one and this is the first I've heard of this specific one but cyberpunk as a setting is one of my favourites to see in games.

We want to keep the role system from the pen and paper version of Cyberpunk. As opposed to the regular fantasy set-up with mages, warriors and archers, we’re going for something different. In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways. That’s where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customization will be strongly tied with the plot. Now going from that, we believe that we can make a game where, with many different role choices, you will get a very strong, engaging story, just like it was with The Witcher.”

“We definitely want to give players way more freedom with customization of the main protagonist then they had with Geralt in The Witcher series. We are planning on letting them change their statistics, equipment, implants and much more.

Added the first trailer for the game that was just put out today, it's all CG but aesthetically this game looks fantastic.

EDIT: There's also a hidden message at about 2:14 that hints at a 2015 release date for this and a February 5 announcement for The Witcher 3, which is apparently much closer to release.

Quote :
Do you like our latest creation? We certainly hope so Smile Yo may remember that we sometimes send you guys secret messages like this. It's a great way for us to speak right to you instead of burying ourselves in corporate mumbo-jumbo so let's begin!

First of all - have you noticed all the details in our teaser (yes, it's a teaser. We'll make a proper trailer in the future)? If you know the Cyberpunk setting there are some things you can spot, like implants - look for the weapon hands and the real skin - corporate emblems that should look familiar and more. Happy hunting!

You're probably curious about the release date. It's currently scheduled a way off in 2015 but in truth the delivery date is more like "when it's done". We will release Cyberpunk to you when we're convinced it is nothing but pure, refined, unadulterated awesome. We want it to be the most kick ass futuristic RPG ever - OK, maybe this sounds pretty bully, but it is our actual goal! You judge if we deliver it!

Oh - and you may wonder why we announced our game so early before the release. The reason is that we're still building our dev team so if you are a talented dude or dudette willing to work in a really different company (gamers rule & boring corporate stuff drools!) on a super ambitious project, send us your application right now! [1] careers@cdprojektred.com

So you want to know what kind of game Cyberpunk 2077 will be? The short description is that it will be a story-heavy, nonlinear, open world RPG based on the well known Cyberpunk pen&paper system and setting. Building open world games is something we are mastering right now and we believe that properly joining nonlinear gameplay with an excellent story telling will bring a totally new quality. Mmm... We'll tell some more about it soon!

And that's not all that's new. We are about the reveal our other project which is much closer to being completed and yes, it will also be a fully open-world game with an intense story. You can probably guess the game we're talking about :-) On the 5th of February it will all be clear.

So stay tuned as we will have quite a lot to show and tell you soon!

We are waiting for you on our newly created forum called Afterlife - what other name could we have chosen for it?

There will be multiple languages used in the game, but only one version of all the game files. Basically, if you want to understand someone ingame who is speaking French you either need to speak French yourself or buy an implant ingame that will translate it for you. I have no idea how good this will be in practice but the sheer scope of this game sounds fucking awesome.

Quote :
Cyberpunk 2077 will have a multiplayer component. Developer CD Projekt Red managing director Adam Badowski confirmed the news to Eurogamer, but did not go into greater detail.

"It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we're going to add multiplayer features," Badowski said.

Badowski also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will not cast players as a predefined hero but rather allow them to forge their own creation. "We'll have different situations in Cyberpunk," Badowski said. "Cyberpunk will have different character classes."

Cyberpunk 2077 puts players into a "dark future" in 2077 where advanced technologies have become "both the salvation and the curse of humanity." The game promises a nonlinear story designed for "mature" players and is set in the metropolis of Night City. It has also been revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature sandbox elements, though this was not detailed.

CD Projekt Red's other project, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, may also include multiplayer. The developer recently said it was "thinking about something" related to a series-first multiplayer option for the 2014-dated role-playing game.

Multiplayer seems like a great idea for Cyberpunk, considering the game is based off a pen & paper RPG a lot of the systems are essentially already designed for that. Not sure how it'd fit into Witcher though, there's only a handful of living witchers.
