looks pretty much the same as the first one, (arkham ripoff). I hope they did something about the lack of things to do end game

Hopefully they fixed the combat so it can be a successful Arkham rip off. Actually punish the player for mashing instead of playing as one would in the Arkham series, not the other way around, otherwise they'll still be missing the whole point of the system they're trying to replicate.

One of the first things revealed was that it'd have random crimes like in the older games again so we're safe there.

JB Blanc is voicing Kingpin (A really hilarious voice actually) and Steve Blum as Kraven, I guess.

The villains for this so far seem a bit more interesting than the first games so that's nice.

The Xbone version has been indefinitely delayed, which is really weird, but also funny.

The Hero or Menace system is pretty shitactular. You have a limited time before you can reach petty crimes, and if you don't get to them before they disappear or you ignore them, your hero/menace gauge lowers and everything's out to kill you, which is quite the annoyance when you're busy looking for collectables or busy finishing up or going to one mission on the other side of the map.

The combat system is more or less the same with a few new upgradeable abilities thrown in. It's still mash friendly and a little wonky, plus web shooting can be a little imprecise at times when you're on the move.

Swinging's okay. It's similar to the first one with reused animations and such, only the web attaches to buildings/trees/etc. now and you can make tighter turns. At first it kind of felt slower than in the original game, but you can manage to pick up a bit of speed and there's a boost upgrade you can get later on. Sometimes you'll be fighting with the camera when trying to land on certain tight spots with a collectable, but you can use the returning Web Rush function to get yourself to said spots if you're having too much trouble. I don't like how they still implemented that "auto-swing" mechanic, where after a full arc he'll let go and shoot another web if you continue holding down whichever shoulder button you're using. I miss being able to stick to one web for as long as I wished.

I'm not sure if it's better for the ps4 version, but the load times between in-door areas and the city can be bad at times, and there's a possibility of freezing too. It happened to me once when I attempted to use the slingshot move to zip across an area.

does that mean you have to do them in the games order or do they re-spawn randomly? if you are forced to do them when the game says i wont bother playing it

A bunch of them spawn at random and last for a limited time until more pop up. You don't have to do them, but you will start getting shot at by flying drones and such once you fall under the Menace side of the gauge for neglecting them.

First and foremost, we think sandboxes work best when the player’s actions (or inaction) impact the game experience, so we’re introducing the Hero or Menace system, which rewards players who save citizens and keep crime rates down through side activities, with some potentially meaningful consequences for those who shirk Spider-Man’s responsibilities.

Sandboxes work best when you can do whatever you want without consequence. Sleeping Dogs had a dual karma system for being a good undercover cop while also being a convinving gang member, but it only mattered during missions. Which was great because outside of missions I want to have fun and experiment with every tool at my disposal.

Side missions and random encounters are fine and can really enhance a sandbox but I want to be free to completely ignore them without the fear of it coming back and biting me in the arse in some way. Total freedom is the true strength of any good sandbox.

I should be an Executive Producer at Beenox.

And that automatic swinging things sounds terrible.

The gauge lowers when you fail them too. Most random activities are easy, but you're pretty much screwed if you pick the fire rescue missions(unless you're playing on the two easier modes I think). Aside from the ones that have only two or three people, there's hardly enough time to save everyone in the ones with the larger buildings. The only way to "get good" at them is through trial and error, learning the preset positions of each victim in each variation of those missions, which is stupid. Fortunately, there's a workaround where if you pause and choose Restart, you can get sent back to the map without being penalized. Still, it's better to just avoid those ones and work on other types of missions to boost your Hero gauge.

This just happened to me. During the same part as in the video too. Even though I wasn't using one at the time, it was apparently caused by having the DLC suits installed. What made it all the more hilarious was the fact that I was using the Big Time suit(which actually did make him go invisible in the comics) when it occurred.

This is an underwhelming sequel, I enjoyed the previous one more
I thought the last Carnage fight is one of the better symbiote fights in a game, instead of just beating the crap out of the symbiote, you use both weaknesses against it
The indicator of enemies noticing you and the underground hideouts you enter to get a treasure (costume) remind me a bit of Assassin's Creed 2
Stealth attacks are cool, but I miss the double stealth takedown
The story is really short, I started it and finished the whole campaign in day one, stopped playing after that
Costumes don't do much, I hoped for more when they stated each suit has its own perks, like the 2 games on the PS1

Maybe you really should go there and take charge, Sok summed the Hero/Menace system here perfectly

Some suit bonuses do help a bit, but they're not needed for the actual story mode. Ricochet(or the Cosmic DLC) and Scarlet Spider are useful for dealing with those lame combat challenges. The latter of those two, as well as Vigilante, also have Hero meter boosters which can be very useful when you just want to go around finding all the collectables without worrying about the Hero/Menace gauge too much.

By the way, one thing that I'd like to address is how these "random events" work, because the way they executed them really got on my nerves and just made the Hero/Menace system even more aggravating.

While these events always respawn and have some variety to them, I hate how they don't all just occur in real time like in the older Spidey games. Instead, they're all preset situations spread across the map that, when you approach the designated point, triggers a generic cutscene and places you into a new area where the crime/fire/etc. is happening(excluding the Bomb and Petty Crime types, but they still open with an unnecessary cutscene soooo...). When you complete an event, you're awarded with this obnoxious cut away to a static image of a news announcement babbling about how Spidey saved the day while the game is busy loading, and then you're teleported to some random spot on the map not far from where the mission took place.

It's such an immersion breaker and makes these events feel more tedious and longer than they actually are. I don't want to cut to a new screen and take down some criminal in his vehicle with QTEs. I want to see a random blip on the mini-map, swing to where the action is, land on that douchebag's car in real time like a badass, and smash on the windshield like any sane person would do, dammit.
