| It's an action biopic in the same vein as Jet Li's Fearless. Most of it is set in Japan occupied China during WWII, and Donnie Yen plays Ip Man, a Wing Chung expert who helps the citizens and stands up for China and etc etc. You know the story. It's a smaller scale than Fearless though, since it is just set in one district.
It's a much more traditional martial arts film than the other Donnie Yen films I watched, but then they were set in the modern day, so what can you expect? Not sure if it's better for it either. The fights are filmed in a pretty modern style, but the fights themselves are in more classic style, so it's bit jarring. But hey, it's Donnie Yen and it's still bloody good.
Also, turns out Sammo Hung isn't in it, he was just the action director. Gifs forthcoming.

| Anyway, plenty of good action in this film. I love how this guy falls down. And there's this awesome beatdown from probably the best fight scene in the entire film. And then there's this, which for me has replaced the leg break at the end of Ong Bak as the most painful moment in a martial arts film ever. | |

| Spent about £40 on Donnie Yen blurays on a random impulse, one of which was Ip Man 2. Another film where Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung get to throw down, although this time with traditional martial arts rather than the more mixed style in Killzone (which I also bought).
Not as good as the first film though. It's good for the most part, but the last act of the film is pretty much Rocky 4, no kidding. Plus all the western characters are charicatures and/or played by bad actors.

| Dragon tiger gate is pretty interesting, TBH you can't really go wrong with Donnie Yen films. Let me know which ones you got and which ones I should watch. I think i only own Flashpoint and seven swords with him as a main character in. Absolutely love flashpoint. | |

| I got Flash Point, Killzone, Ip Man 1 and 2, and Legend of the Fist: Return of Chen Zen.
Ip Man and Killzone are worth owning. Return of Chen Zen is cool, but it's pretty much the same story as Ip Man (chinese guy stands up for the chinese during the Japanese occupation and fights a Japanese general at the end), except Return of Chen Zen has a more exaggerated style.

I've been thinking about picking up some blu rays myself.

| Yeah, it really changes pace in the second half i loved that opening scene though. The effects in the latter half were good to. | |
