Manually ejecting discs N.B. if this does not work when you send in your PS3 for repairs make sure to note that you have a disc stuck inside the machine. I'll update this tread with more information later.

Make sure you have a small Phillips-head screwdriver with a shank (the end of the screwdriver) is at least 1 inch long.
Turn off the PS3 and unplug the AC power cord from the wall. Turn the system over and open the screw cover.
Completely remove the screw cover from the system by carefully pulling the cover straight up away from the system.
Insert a small Phillips-head screwdriver into the hole that the screw cover was inserted. Not the hole that has the blue screw. You may need to push through a paper dust cover located just below the surface of the case. This will not void your warranty.
Once fully inserted, rotate the screwdriver counterclockwise to eject the disc.
The disc will eject from the disc slot on the front of the system. Rotate the eject mechanism until the disc is fully ejected. It may take several turns before the disc appears from the disc slot.

I tried watching the X-Men First Class Blu-Ray recently on my PS3, but it didn't work. After it started playing I got a notice that said I need to visit such and such website if discs don't work. It was new and other Fox Blu-Rays do work on my PS3. Is this a common problem with recent Blu-Ray releases or is my PS3 just fucking up?

- When the PS3 is started up, the XMB™ menu is not displayed (only the wave screen background appears) - When the PS3 is started up, nothing appears on the screen - When the PS3 is started up, a message stating [The hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored.] is displayed and prompts the user to press X to Restore the system. Original message is displayed again or the system stops during restoration. - When the PS3™ system is started up, an error message stating [The hard disk's database will be rebuilt.] is displayed and prompts the user to press X. The system again fails start up or stops while formatting the hard drive. - The system stops while restarting after a PS3 system update or while updating or rebuilding the database.
Note using safe mode may result in loss of data, so don't click anything unless you've either backed it up or you read what it does properly, i've listed what the options do here:
Safe Mode Options
In Safe Mode, you will have the following options:
1. Restart System - Ends safe mode and restarts the PlayStation 3 normally. 2. Restore Default Settings - Performs the same operations as [Restore Default Settings] on the XMB, and also deletes PlayStation Network account information from the system. 3. Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered. 4. Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items. 5. Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step. This will reformat the hard drive on the PlayStation 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB. 6. System Update - Updates the PS3 system software. This can only be done with an update file already saved on external storage media, such as a USB drive.
Activating Safe Mode
Step 1: Turn off the PlayStation 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.
Step 2:
Touch and hold the Power button (do not remove your finger from the button). You will hear the first beep, meaning the PlayStation 3 is powering on. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3:
1. Touch and hold the Power button (again, do not remove your finger from the button). As in Step 2, you will hear the first beep, again for the PlayStation 3 to power on. 2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset. 3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."
4. Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PlayStation 3 and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode. 5. You will now see the Safe Mode menu.
Step 4: We recommend performing the safe mode options in the following order until one of the options works for you. If one of the options work, do not continue onto the other options.

This looks popular enough (First part getting over 2 million views) and percentage of likes over dislikes indicates that it's pretty solid. I, myself, have viewed the first part and it seems legit to me. This is that soldering thing I mentioned in the other topic.

Note - before doing these steps, make sure you have the latest firmware update from Sony
1. Turn off the internet connection, or simply unplug your wireless hub/modem in the house.
2. In the PS3 menu, go to the video section and click on the BD Data folder, then click on the BD Shared Data folder and delete the Temp file.
3. Next, in the root of the BD Data folder, erase the X-Men First Class file in the data tree.
4. Restart your PS3 with no disc in it.
5. Put the movie in and play, all should be good.

I had that exact problem last week but it's never happened to me before and every issue my customers have had with Blu-Rays has been fixed with a firmware update. Probably a problem with the PAL version of x-men and PS3s as I haven't heard of any similar issues with dedicated Blu-Ray players and it worked fine on our Panasonic player.
For what it's worth though I got it to work on my playstation by hitting triangle to bring up the navigation controls and messing with the skip/fast forward functions.

I think Neo's the only one who can really help you sorry i don't have that film so i can't check what files it puts up i'll see if i can find anything more detailed. You could also try the safe mode thing and use the defrag options, make sure you read the above post in here earlier though so you don't delete anyinfo you need. You could have corrupted files leading to a problem, or an error on your hard disc. The fix i found seemed to work for everyone. I'll look into it a bit more in a while.
