I gotta say right off the bat the initial cutscene , the first thing that went through my head was the game looked a bit shit, graphically, it might be the black yellow filter and the amount of words i kinda tuned out while i focused on the screen. I was debating whether i'd need to play the game through to understand what the hell people were saying or if this would always be gibberish. I vaguely knew what they were talking about but I have more then a basic understanding of neurology so i'm guessing its meant to be something you don't get.

ANyways the actual game looks way better then that first cutscene strangely i was slightly confused why the news reporter looiked like they an extra from the rocky horror picture show, but eh i guess that what happens with cyber punk futures. Adam didn't seem to have augs at the start so i'm assuming shit gets real and everyone will probably betray me. I was assuming Reed would be bad but there also seems to be sexual tension, but maybe i read into things too much.

Anyways I'm probably gonna turn off that highlight option as it will probably get annoying later and make me feel like i didn't work out anything. The music seems like its trying to sound Deus Ex like which is a good thing. Anyway i'm still in forced convos i'll see where this is going and yeah i'm playing on hard.

So playing through the first mission i'm going to try adn not use guns for as long as i can manage. I couldn't wokr out how not to kill people in the prologue so whatever. The game confuses me with its mechanics. Ot s a first person game but the shooting mechanics like changing to TPS when in cover i haven't worked out if this annoys me yet.

So far not been spotted on the first mission but admittedly i've barely moved. The graphics are nice and controls are tight. I'm slitghly annoyed i will never be able to use the silenced sniper rifle or the double barreled shotgun as i don't have the augmented addition just the limited. I could buy it off the store but i've already got most that stuff. I'll probably rebuy this on PC at a later date if there's a GOTY. I'm getting huge nostalgia rushes.

Also if this game is set before Deus ex i'm shocked my augments look so slick considering gunther or was it Herman i can't remember his name it was really german sounding, but the guy looked like shit but then again Deus ex was one fugly game. I probably will replay that after this and get a better grip on the universe.

There also seems to be a lot of documents and backstory i think i'll play through the game first then on a second run when i get whats going on try to get the back story. I really can't be assed to read all this shit.

At the time HR occurs everyone is using mechanical augments, JC Denton had nano-augments which are shitloads more advanced as they don't require you to, for example, cut off your leg.

I can't remember whether it explains the decline in mechanical augmentations between HR and DX but basically

Ok finished the first mission. I tackled the mission stealthily and took down everyone with close range KOs (not actually going for a no kill run just playing like this until i get a silenced pistol).

Decided to talk the terrorist down and actually pulled it off, I suspect i can use these contacts later which is quite typical of games like this.

The fact i could talk down a potential boss rather then be forced to kill him shows there's at least some diversity in the conversation tree. I'm trying not to compaqre this to alpha protocol but its already happening a lot. I don't really like how takedowns trigger a cutscene, i find it breaks combat flow, AP handled this better. I'll comment on the conversation trees later.

However the blend of third person and first person views is actually kinda cool reminds me of MGS and rainbow six vegas. Gunplay seems kinda cool. Slightly disappointed in the simplification of the training you have this seems to have been mixed with augs now. I guess not being forced to pick one aug over another allows you to become more overpoqwered which is nice, and gives you freedom with upgrades more. But this also means the later sections of the game will most likley become a joke.

OK this game is pretty damn awesome.

I think it fails at trying to be as diverse as it wants to be AP trumps it in that respect (i'm talking about actions to consequences), here we basically seem to get dialgue changes i mean sarif doesn't even give a fuck if i kill everyone or not. I'm guessing it will just change a few of the publics reaction big deal.

Where this game is shining is the exploration adn the number of doors and places to break into. There's so many hidden areas its kinda fun. I basically maxed my hacking and stealth having levels so i can break into everything all the time (also really handy way to gain money and experience). Still going for the non lethal takedowns, i'm debating putting a bullet in the head of ppl i take down to prevent them being revived the takedowsn seem to give me more XP if non lethal.

The stealth element is working really well i'm breaking into the DRB base and when patient i can get through some really sticky situations without violence or being spotted its pretty hardcore. Also i die immediately if spotted as playing on GMDE difficulty. Thats also likely a side effect of not choosing anyskills to help me in combat or staying hidden.

I'm supposed to be doing the morgue mission but i got sidetracked and gonna take down the DRB. For some reason i can't by Praxis at the LIMB clinic now which annoys me as i have like 15k I did buy two earlier i think.

EDIT: probably gonna get the no fall damage thing next.

There's a limited number of Praxis kits you can buy at each LIMB clinic although when you come back to areas later in the game they get restocked.

If you're doing the exploring thing get the heavy lifting, no fall damage and high jump augs asap, they're fucking amazing. Punching through weak walls is alright too although you can usually just blow them up with explosives once you spot them.

oh yeah i forgot baout heavy lifting that was the first aug i got when i realised i could lift up turrets with it i decided it was a must. Yeah i'll get the high jump right after i get the fall, there's some shortcuts i can't take till i get it. Plus i loved the jumping perks in DE i used to just sprint fast and leap over buildings that was good shit.

Weapons wise i'm only using a heavily upgraded 10mm should i stick with that or is anything else better?

Also i didn't realise how much hard it is on GMDE until i realised they remove the objective markers, you can turn them on but it makes me have to navigate by what they tell me and looking at street signs which is kinda cool.

The 10mm is arguably one of the best weapons in the game once you get the armor piercing upgrade and silencer, stick with it.

Yeah GMDE is loads better I couldn't play the game any other way to be honest.

So far i put a good few hours into the game and i've only done one main mission and 2 side missions. I'm a decent way through a third side mission and a little into the second main mission. But i just forgot how easy it is to get sidetracked in this game. I found myself using probably the ideal entry points as my escape routes i guess now i can better navigate the sewers but still its insane how well hidden some of the things are. I completely overlook a bunch of things.

The cutscene for KOs is still really annoying the hell out of me and all the cool moves are lethal but there's no incentive to use them which is a shame.

Got through the police station the references to robocop were pretty cool. The plot seems interesting enough. The actual amount of stealth in this game is insane. I'm not sure how positive a thing that is though. The fact this doesn't play like a shooter is great but part of the beauty of the original Deus Ex was that you had the option. The multiple routes certainly are fun to play around with and the fact that at least some choices have an impact is cool to (i.e. not fighting the first boss) i doubt it will be of much use though i think he gave me a password or something. To get through this game without being seen i can imagine would take a helluva lot of work. I will step up to the challenge on my next playthrough though.

Midway through some kind of factory that looks like a military base now was kinda cool to see the villains, this looks like a hardcore set of boss fights later these guys look tough. Also how the fuck can i take out that fuck off robot i did find a rocket launcher but i'd have to drop everything to carry it. Gonna stop there for today i dion't think i'm far from the objective arrow in the military base just one big room to navigate but i don't have the patience for that now.

Just evade the robots, that's what I do. Also, you should save some concussion grenades for the first boss, which sucks beaver balls.

Yeah he completely kicked my ass, i'll retry him later. I managed to get through the plant without being spotted which was pretty easy suprisingly.

My tactic for the boss was going to be jumping form cover to cover, but as i only have a 10mm pistol i seem to be doing fuck all damage. Will definitely try the concusiion grenades later i think i got frag mines which i will try to use to.

People very strongly criticised Alpha Protocol requiring a specific skill set for the bosses, yet DEHR does a very similar thing; lets you specialise in stealth then throws you in a one on one fight with a heavily armoured boss where your specialisation is utterly useless.

They're both pretty poor pieces of design, but AP got rightly criticised for it where DEHR seemed to get away with it, the critics seeming to scared to mention it.

It's all about advertising. Gamespot gave the new Zelda game a 6.5 while every other site gave it 10/10. I'm not sure if they were being legit or they just didn't get the piece of the advertising pie they wanted.

Odd thing is, the people playing the game called it right. Or at least the GameFAQ forums people were complaining about the way the boss fights were integrated into the game. It was just the professional reviewers who seemed to overlook the issue on their way to various 9/10 scores.

Destructoid mentioned it, hated it, and gave the game a 9,5/10.

'Professional' reviews go from roughly 7 to 10 depending on how much the game publisher has paid to advertise their shit on the site in question.

Anyhow the first boss is really simple with any augs, just throw the gas canisters that are literally everywhere at him. The other bosses are pretty shit though, at least it kinda helps to know that Eidos outsourced the boss fight work so it wasn't the actual DX team that produced those piles of shit.

So i took down Barrett pretty easily in the end i threw 4 frag mines at him and a frag grenade, while shooting him in the face. That seemed to take him down in around 30 seconds.

I'm in China now. The accents are terrible and hilarious. I'm slightly overwhelmed by the complex map and how big it is, at the same time as struggling to find things to loot. I did that rotten business side mission but that was laughably easy with no real challenge at all.

What i don't get is if i'm in china, then why are the Harvesters all black. I guess it could be more multicultural by then but this is only 16 years in the future.

China was alright i didn't particuarly like exploring the city as it was almost to big to be checking out every nnok and cranny (which i did anyway) goinng by the raste i'm doing this game maxing every power seems very plausible.

Also just realised gas mine is one of the most overpowered weapons in the game, i took out about 8 guards in one hit after the confrontation in china.

Was flying through the montreal section, i gotta say this will be helluva lot of fun to get through with no alerts and no kills.

My biggest gripe is it can feel too long to explore stuff (but saying a game is too big is dumb). My more rational gripe is that i can't use the awesome kill animations as they lose me XP. I also wish there was a way to recharge more then one power cell. Seems annoying i can only use multipowers, when i eat a power bar but no other time (hell if there was a sleeping mechanic i could roll with it more).

Yep, the fact that only one power cell regens annoyed me. It made upgrading to more cells utterly pointless and made multiple takedowns a bit of a pain in the arse. Oh, and maxing out every power is fairly easy even without exploring.

Flying through this. Finished Montreal and the awful boss fight dealt with her using 10 frag mines was probably overkill, Detroit riot, back in hengsha and just done the tracer tong mission.

Getting into it more now as i can fly through bases no problem. DE 1 is the better game but this is a worthy sequel.
