Resident Evil: Director's Cut Empty
PostSubject: Resident Evil: Director's Cut   Resident Evil: Director's Cut Icon_minitimeWed Sep 21, 2011 11:18 am

So just started playing this as i never played this version.

The opening cutscene is still as hilarious as ever. Chris just can't act and it stinks of a B movie, the characters look like they are terrible cosplayers. Its always bugged me if the dialogue was deliberately bad. By the time the games got to CVX and 3 it definitely was meant to be bad. But one definitely shines in this department. Barry spouting "what is it?" to basically everything and being suprised its blood, describing jill as "the master of lockpicking".

Anyway lets get to the game. Entering the mansion it straight away seems familiar, I also didn't realie that due to the prerendered backgrounds the game hasn't really aged at all. Controls are suprsingly responsive and i can only assume i used to suck at this game. Autolock appears to have been added into this version (IIRC that was a series standard from 2 onwards), oh yeah the handgun you have is way more powerful as it can decapitate now this should make the game way easier. I certainly can confirm the controls are identical to RE4 and onwards.

The only thing thats aged badly are character models, but honestly everything is so small i don't really care. They do what they need to do. Instantly i realise why i miss the first and third incarnation of the series, the music is ominous (not just when an enemy is nearby, seriously that working as a radar in 4 and 5 bugs the hell out of me). Oh yeah and a inventory screen where i can thoroughly investigate the items.

Oh yeah i obviously chose jill, for two reasons I've always thought chris is a dick, and she gets two inventory spaces and i hate backtracking more then not having much health (Chris could take 3/4 hits from a hunter, jill normally was dead in two).

The real question is does the gameplay interst me to finish this speed run (though i just realised i didn't pause the game so i basically fucked my chances of getting teh rocket launcher as i was typing this...

Oh yeah and weirdly jill starts with a new outfit i'm hoping to change back to the other one ASAP, to be nostalgic.

... O SNAP

Just died and i hadn't saved, teaches me for trying to horde healing items. I'll play this again later. Barry acting shifty is hilarious. Especially the whole Jill sandwich comment. Can't wait to get him killed, I remember how much my buddies at school thought that was hilarious and i'd broke the game.
