The Ruins

Seeing how I dont have cable I pulled out my collection of movies and started watching them. The first being The Ruins.
The plot- A bunch of American college students go out to a Mayan ruins in search of a brother of someone in the group.
Although the ruins are infested with murderous blood thristy trolling vines.

The movie starts out with a girl about the same age as the others, in a dark hole with only a small amount of light on her head. I missed what happened but it goes black and she screams. Then the movie continues with the main group having fun at a local fancy hotel.

After the build up to the plot they reach the ruins which is a pyramid covered in vines. When the group gets close to the ruins, the locals who I guess live nearby all run out with guns and bows yelling in spanish at the group who doesnt understand spanish. Scaring one of the girls in the group who steps on the vines, this causes the cant speak english villagers to freak out yelling more and aiming their weapons at the still cant understand spanish group. The villagers then shoot a male in the group who walks forward to calm them down. After that being done they run up the pyramid. When they reach the top they found the corpse of the dead brother who they were looking for and then some.

What makes the vines trolls is how they can copy sounds they hear. The group who is desperate hear a phone in the hole at the top. Both of the girls go down to find it only that the ringing is coming from a flower from the vines.


What I really didnt like about this movie is how one of the males in the group get injured from falling into the hole when the rope snaps. They get him, treat his wounds the best they can, and leave him not a foot away from the vines to rest. Even after when he woke up to find his legs wrapped in vines with vines in his legs.

That film sounds awful.

Was it even scary?

You know exactly why.

No, just a gore film and the group going crazy because of the vines turning everyone against each other.
The phone ringing was sorta the best part imo. Though the vines do make more sounds and such later, the phone was the best they made.

The movie collection is the family's.
I plan on watching more (horror films mostly).

Finished the movie and yea... the phone ring was the scariest part in the movie and it wasnt that good.

That didn't even sound scary watch some proper horror films the type that make you paranoid to ever do a ouiji board.

Have you heard of "The new daughter" OR whats your thoughts on it?
It's in here and I never heard of it.

Moose will have a better clue of whats scary then me.

I really don't watch many horror films as there now just gory rather then scary.

Why would you think I know about horror?

I'm pretty sure you warn people about not going out on the moors. Knowing whats out there must give you a better grasp of horror.

You probably hunt Beasts of Bodmin in your spare time.

I will admit, horror films this generation arent scary. I watched the new Nightmare on Elm Str and I was very disappoint.

Yeah both The Ruins and the new Nightmare on Elm street movies sucked.

The Ruins was entertaining. Awful compared to the book but not terrible. But yes as a whole horror movies have blown in recent years.
