What do you think of the new direction for horror?

you know these now really fucked up films that decide to disturb you by probably showing some sick bastards weird ass fantasies, you know the writer

and by that i mean these films which have gore to disturb you as opposed to anything scary happening i.e. swa, hostel etc.

It really depends. Hostel bored the arse off me, but the first Saw is pretty good. Probably because Saw 1 actually spent time developing the characters. Half the film was just two guys in a room.

That's what makes it better than other Saw films, and films like Hostel. There's scenes at the start of Saw with those ridiculous traps that were main features in the later Saw films, but the main situation in Saw 1 was much simpler, and much better for building a story around.

well saw 1 was a psychological horror to an extent
with a large focus on implied horror

2 and onwards basically thought fuck that and just made it about the gore

hostel and stuff like the hills have eyes, simply have things for shock value

I personally much prefer supernatural type horrors as they're actually scary

I really liked the Hills Have Eyes remake. Not because it was scary, but because it was well made and entertaining. The second one was awful though.

What about Mirrors? Or does that not count?

and i guess the violence isn't totally unnecessary
as the air of the film sounds damn scary

Paranormal activity was a recent supernatural horror. It wasn't very good though.

last decent horror film i saw was called the eye it was chinese i think
i think it got remade

Oh yeah, that was good. I think it's Korean, but I'm not sure. I loved how it seemed to be coming to a happy end and then WHAM MASSIVE TWIST OHMYGOD, and it carried on for another 20 minutes.

I remember hearing about that. Haven't looked into it at all though.

I thought it was decent. It was doing fine to me until that mystery hand moment. They should have more fights like they did at the end though
