Played FF13 today

First impressions

I kid you not for battles you just press x and before you know it you beat whatever you fight and as soon as the battle ends you're team is at max hp and such.
Thus making pheonix downs the most worthless items in the game.
Citscenes are fun to watch but it makes no sense how this characters lives on this fall that these people didnt.

I'm tempted to get this just because it's half price when you trade in Darksiders.

I've heard that the combat gets more complicated after the first five hours.

FFXIII has been slaughtered in the press for 'dumbing down'. GamesMaster gave the UK version 76%, which is the lowest score any major FF title has ever received, and Gamecentral (Teletext's game dept) gave it 6/10, citing it's extremely linear nature, and stopping just short of calling it a scrolling beat 'em up. Apparently, even some of the dungeons are just straight lines as well. They did also say that the game opens up for minor exploration near the end, in an attempt to show the difference between two factions, though you have to wade through approximately twenty five hours for this to happen.

Yeah, it sounds dull as hell, but I'll still check it out myself rather than relying on the reviews.

I don't mind linearity at all, but if it's like FFX, then I'd never lay eyes on it again.

XIII is almost completely linear. There's no exploration at all, no side quests. Even X allowed that to a degree.

Now they have auto battle, so you dont have to use spells either, just press x.
So with auto battle for one turn they'll using what they need to use. Including healing, using abilities, and using items. Then you just do it again and again.
The sphere grid is pretty though.

So basically it's the most boring RPG ever created.

Also according to Prplcheez there are no cities from what he has played.

I heard all you do is run in straight line. Get in battles then run again.

Yep, no cities, no towns. Any items you purchased are bough through the save menu.

Again, it's linear. Totally linear. You can only do what's required to advance the story, nothing more. No side quests, no towns to visit, nada. All you do is follow the story. In a straight line.

Sounds like how I use to play my RPGs half the time. >_> Now they start catering to people who don't have the slightest fucking idea how to play a real RPG?

I liked how Final Fantasy V's side quests actually mattered somewhat on the story.

What happened to those, Square?

i didnt like this game, its pretty, but thats about all. the music grates on my ears and the game plays itself--why make a game at all? why not just make it a movie and save yourselves the trouble and damage to your reputation for making a giant (and very easy) quicktime event/cutscene and saying it's final fantasy?

it IS an interesting setting and concept, but it doesnt really seem like it's a 'final fantasy' game to me. or that it should be a game in the first place.

You know I didn't think I'd have to consult Gamefaqs but I am currently at a puzzle that has no present solution to my knowledge.

EDIT, before i actually played it over there, i considered buying this game. i doubt i will now though.

Good, buy Mass Effect or save every penny you have for Continuum Shift or maybe to save the souls of people trapped in cards.

well i don't think the 360 owners will be so glad they cvan share this now

I'm sure those who have a 360 but not a PS3 would still be glad of the option to buy it should they choose to. I'll likely rent the PS3 version, just to avoid the disc changes. Oh, and Tobi; buy Mass Effect 2 if you haven't already. It's ****ing brilliant.

Oh Golly, I'll just jump right on that. Even though I lack a proper gaming PC or even an X-Box, I'll definitly be getting that game. -_-

well versus always seemed the more interesting of the two
and now the fact that this is generally so poorly received will probably piss off the average user more

i know if i was 360 only i'd be pissed i got this and not versus
